Birthday Blues . . .

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone and thanks for reading my post. 🌻

Reason I'm posting here and not on my social media is because I like the community here, and also don't know anyone personally here . . .  so it feels better to me.

Today's my birthday and I have the blues.

I've always felt blue on my birthday for no particular reason.

But this past year has been a great year in every aspect. Extraordinarily great.

This is because two major incidents occurred that completely changed me (first was four years ago, and second was two years ago). Thanks to them, I suddenly began and am continuing to grow and develop in ways I never imagined possible. I'm talking about psychological growth; Understanding myself and others; Intuition; Emotional intelligence; Etc.

Well, a while ago—when I realized my birthday was coming up—it was just obvious to me that this year's Bday would be the first Bday which I would actually be happy about plus actively celebrate plus not avoid (by sleeping through it, turning off my phone, not getting on social media).

So how is it that even with the great past year + the 'new me' do I have the Bday blues?

The big day (June 4th) just started at midnight (it's around 6 am now where I live).

Well, three days ago I found out I have to start looking for a new apartment (and I just moved to this one three months ago). This is depressing for many reasons.

And then two days ago me and my boyfriend broke up.

I didn't really have any reaction to both things.

Then yesterday,  I suddenly realized that both things happened. So sad about one plus so anxious about the other. Both things together . . . suddenly  really upset.

So I cancelled the party my family had planned for today because I knew I wouldn't be able to find the energy to pick myself up within just 1-2 days.

That's the story. I'll be fine soon enough (I mean that I won't be upset about the move or the guy for long). But right now I'm most upset because this birthday has gone to waste. [BTW Can't change my mind about the party cuz my family lives far from me, plus I've been awake all night and will be tired and need to sleep in a few hours.]

From being on this forum for years, I know there are many, many, many people here who are special, nice, funny, creative and emotionally intelligent.

So . . . I don't know. . . It would make me happy to read anything you feel like writing.

I made sure to do the following: From 11:55 pm on June 3rd till 12:05 am on June 4th, I played Happy by Pharrell, on a loop, and danced the whole time—even though I'm depressed.

I have a feeling that your comments (hopefully there will be comments . . .) will be a continuation of the Pharrell thing.

Thanks, Mae 🐧

Happy Belated Birthday, @mae_creativity! I hope you're feeling better today and got plenty of rest. 💗💗💗

When I was little, we got to celebrate our birthday for the whole week by sitting in the "Super Kid" chair at dinnertime (a chair decorated with balloons and streamers, we also got to wear the "Super Kid" crown).

Since the blues hit you on your birthday (of all days!), I hope you can find little ways to celebrate yourself each day this week. Even if it is just eating your favorite treat, watching the sunset, or dancing to Pharrell Williams' "Happy" song all night long. 😊

Here's your "Super Kid" crown and chair! 👑🪑🎈🥳🎉

Thanks, Mae 🐧

I'll let you in on a little secret that changed how I celebrated birthdays: I stopped caring about dates. It's my birthday. If I want to celebrate in September, even though my biological birthday was in August, I'll celebrate in September. Or perhaps in February, three years from now.

Birthdays aren't so much a celebration of the day you got born as it is a celebration of who you have become  – and who you want to be tomorrow

So celebrate your birthday and be happy about it when you feel like it.

Sorry to hear about your shitty week! When it's over, and you're happy again, I wish you a perfect and joyous day with the people you choose to keep close, on the day you decide to do it.

Happy birthday!

Hi Smashradio and Vickicieto! Thank you both so much for taking the time to write these two very thoughtful messages. I love them so so much! Thank you for being part of my special day, I won't forget it. 🙂

In case you're curious . . . I somehow managed to completely change the day: from what was going to be yet another depressing bday, to the best bday I've had.   I actually do know how I did it (chose to change my thoughts in order to change my emotions), but I say 'somehow' because I'm amazed I was able to do the psychologically healthy thing. And of course since I changed my energy, vibe, whatever you wanna call it—what I put out, then came back in. So everyone called and I even got a surprise of a dozen balloons (which is really the only thing had wished for).

And thank you very much to Adeel4500, Shawalshajib, uk100 for you lovely happy birthday wishes.

Smashradio and Vickicieto, Adeel4500, Shawalshajib, and uk100 -- Can I ask you all a favor? Please write me back to answer this: when is your birthday?

I'm at an age where I dread having to reveal the year . . . so of course if you don't want to reveal that, that's fine. I just need month + day. 🙂

🥳

I'm not afraid to say that I'm happily in my 40s!

Like @smashradio, my birthday falls on the 5th ... but I was born in October. 😊

I won't share my birth year because I was a victim of ID theft earlier this month which resulted in multiple accounts being set up in my name (and my Fiverr account shut down for several days), so I have to be more careful about what information I share and post online. It looks like even one of my forum posts got quoted in The Register. Luckily it was an okay post.

Oy--that's some pickle! I just wanted to make a note of the date . . . next October let's do the Pharrell thing!

Hi Mae. Bit late for the birthday wishes, but here's a 🎈 anyway.

I've also had birthday recently, and also have to move out soonish and don't have a new place yet, and know how hard it is to find one as a freelancer (even already had to avoid getting scammed after having replied to an apartment ad on a dedicated platform; sounded great at first, and just like the perfect fit, kind of a 'universe falls into place' thing, then slightly fishy in the person's second mail, so I did some research, and turned out there's an already known scam around; that scammer was definitely a very "good" one, compared to those annoying but super easy to spot Telegram etc. scammers that spam us here so often).

We'll get through it, somehow, birthdays, moves, and the rest! 🍀

GOOD + INTERESTING NEWS

PS To  @vickieito and @smashradio

And to @miiila , @theratypist , @pptexperts , and @kawsar_log

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. Almost all of you mentioned 'a bit late' or 'belated.' But here's something interesting . . .

In my culture there's a Hebrew calendar in addition to the Gregorian one. My birthday on the Gregorian is June 4th. But I hadn't looked up what Gregorian date corresponds to the Hebrew date this year. I happened to find out just a few minutes ago, and . . . it's actually tonight!   [On the Hebrew calendar, each date begins at sunset and ends on the next day's sunset.]

It's now around 14:30, so I have around four hours to get in the mood and possibly plan something for tomorrow . . . 😁🎈🎈🥳

This shows that I was right: dates don't matter. 😄

Happy birthday, again!

Wait... Does this mean your friends have to get you a present two times!? If so, I'm going to start following the Hebrew calendar myself. And the Gregorian, of course.

1. Yes--this not only shows you were right, but also proves it! Congratulations on being right 😅

2. Only one present . . . but let's stick with your philosophy about birthdays (that you decide when and how it is). This means you can choose to get a present two times. Actually I have a feeling you'll choose a more interesting number, like 5 . . .or 15?   😁

And if you're gonna follow the Hebrew calendar plus you like presents . . . Why not add Hannukah? It's lighting candles for eight nights with a little present each night.

So now you have at least two presents for two birthdays, plus eight presents on Hannukah = 10 presents per year.

Homework: Make a list of stuff you want. Send it to:

  • Santa
  • Tooth fairy
  • Your mom
  • Your dad
  • Easter Bunny
  • (And post on all your social media + this forum maybe)

You're making perfect sense!

We have something similar in Norway, called Advent, which leads up to Christmas, where we give the kids a calendar with 24 gifts, one for each day leading up to Christmas Eve. So that's 24 presents plus 10, plus the two birthdays. 36 presents!

First of all thank you for sharing that video—it cracked me up!!!

I'm super interested in /and like to research cultural traditions. Because of what you wrote, now I really want to learn about Advent in Norway. Not sure where to look online (most sources aren't reliable). When I get curious about something, I get very curious. What is this calendar with 24 gifts??? Is it a gigantic calendar with normal sized gifts? Or is the calendar normal sized, but with tiny gifts like candy, miniature things, and tiny dolls? Before I explode (with both curiosity + excitement --I feel like I'm about to get 24 gifts!), please tell me more and/or can u suggest where I can read about it? 🏵️

I want to hear from @smashradio on this too because I've never been able to make this work.

I tried the wall calendars for each person with 24 pieces of chocolate attached to each date. This doesn't work because it's very accessible and all the chocolates disappear after the first few days. Same with 24 wrapped presents under our tree. We're not good at waiting. Especially if chocolates are involved. 😅

I know others have things that look like dollhouses, with drawers/compartments for each day, for little gifts.

American marketing departments like the concept of  Advent Calenders, and not just for kids. LEGO, cheeses, and K-cups, are the ones I've personally witnessed, though I know I've seen plenty more.
