Enduring the Fiverr Drought!

Conversely, me checking my stats and moaning about lack of sales may have saved the world from WWIII.

You are a better soul than I. I passed wind earlier today and suddenly there were warships heading for the Gulf of Iran. 😉

Wow that’s spooky, I was going to say the Royal British fleet scaring off an attempt to capture an English Oil tanker was a result of me burping

Clearly, our combined bodily excretions and expelled gasses are causing world chaos, 😦

My mother always said this would happen…

That’s interesting about the Observer Effect.

It narrows down the field of possibilities simply by the act of observing. It’s one reason I don’t tell fortunes.

It ties into Beginner’s Mind too. aka Beginner’s Luck. It’s best to have no preconceptions when you begin something. The first time I ever went fishing I caught a big red snapper less than ten minutes after putting my line in the water. I had no idea what I was doing. I was just going along because I liked the guy I was with.

You could apply this “watching paint dry theory” to new sellers who are throwing the dice out there for the first time…

…The Roulette Table Fact 50/50 story…

A man not doing very well at a casino one night was playing slots when he glanced across at the roulette table. For over 3 hours he glanced at the LCD display next to the dealer with the last 49 results, they were all “black”. And everyone was winning huge stacks of chips simply riding the black 50/50 odds. “Surely” he said to his friend who also had a bad night also. If I stick my last $500 on black it’s a good luck omen. His friend who also had only a $500 chip wished his friend good luck and went home and put his $500 chip in his night dresser. His friend then proceeded to the table and placed the $500 on black to double his investment. Well it came up red on the 60th time of being black and he lost. His friend came back one year later after his coin was found sitting in the dresser, placed his chip on black and boom he won it came up black!

What is the moral of this story

Hell if I know

…maybe the grass is never greener…Luck plays a huge part in winning in a level playing field… IDK I just like the story 😁 many deep levels…

Yeah, things have been really low the past couple of weeks for me - but luckily there seems to be an uptick right now. Lots of people were talking about a drought coinciding with Fiverr going public, but as you said it might well be the holidays. I don’t have too much experience here so can’t say.

I have a couple of amazing casino gambling stories that happened to me. Both winning based on beginner’s luck, sort of the like that fishing story. I hate to gamble, no interest in it. Just like how I dislike the idea of fishing. Never think about them and avoid them if possible. But I’m really lucky if I do them, without fail. There is a connection there.

I’m a level 2 and mine are way down, too. I really think that it’s just the season. Seen it for the last few years. It’s frustrating and stressful, but mine have picked way up later into the season and I’m way busier during the fall and winter. Who knows?

Is anyone still low in sales or is it just me lol

Is anyone still low in sales

Our July got off to an amazing start and has in the past week come to a total halt, both sales and messages.

A lot of our work is from UK buyers, and the school summer holidays have just started here, so people could be taking time off work to be with their kids. The ‘drought’ isn’t usually as severe as it seems to be this year, but who knows?

It’s definitely more severe. The majority of my clients are from either the US or the UK and I’ve never seen a drought so bad even during Christmas.

As soon as the IPO happened, my sales dropped off. It’s begining to pick up. This is the slowest it’s being since I started

I agree, @steve_maxell. I think there’s a correlation between the launch of the IPO and the start of this slump for so many sellers. I’ve noticed a slowdown in my orders, traffic, and contacts from buyers since early May.

I’m unsure what the connection is, but I think the timing is too close together for it to just be coincidence. I don’t think it’s about a summer slump, but something happening behind the scenes which is negatively impacting sellers.

I’ve seen this type of thing before where developers/programmers try to tweak the system for a certain purpose - maybe to impact the IPO - and it leads to unintended consequences because they didn’t thoroughly check the process before launching. Look at the releases of new Microsoft software as an example of something being deployed too soon, and having to then clean up the problems it caused.

The good news is that this slump is going to negatively affect the revenues for Fiverr - which is the best motivator to get them to straighten out whatever is happening, and do it quickly!

Maybe the setup process is more involved than before for buyers or maybe the searches aren’t showing the results they want easily or allowing them to refine the results easily (eg. after searching it still doesn’t let you refine by the top/first category unless you select another category (which might be one you don’t want) first.

Maybe it’s the service charges or something to do with id verificiaton.

I have literally 0 orders in my queue. I’ve never had a drought like this before. Not only this but my gigs aren’t even placed in the Psychic search category.

Same here, @psychicbunny. I’ve never had a drought like this either. Even my gig views are super depressed. I think they changed something in the search algorithm, and it’s leading to low views/orders. I just noticed last night they added back the “Show Pro Sellers First” button that had disappeared several months ago. The search results are odd today - not spaced correctly.

My hope is that someone is working to restore whatever they messed up in the search process, so we can get back to work.

When did they change the layout of gigs? Instead of the gig description as the first thing you see on a gig you see the profile on the left now…

When did this happen? Does this change coincide with when the drought started? Just wondering.

It seem confusing when you expect to read about the gig you are looking at, instead reading the profile of the seller. We know how much people hate to read so maybe they just lose interest in the gig?

You know, I’ve noticed the same thing @misscrystal, with the search results pages. See my reply above to psychicbunny. I think developers are changing things. I’m hoping they’re trying to “reset” whatever they messed up, to eliminate this drought.

Something like this can kill sales. They now have to try to find the gig description through the seller’s profile description and ads, huge ones, for other gigs. They give up.

Exactly! When buyers can’t find things like they used to, it’s a huge disincentive to placing orders.

Another change I just noticed - now there is a “Accept Studio Invites” button on my profile. A lot of changes all at once. Not good!

I find this layout very confusing. And instead of a BUY NOW button it says Continue. Continue what???

Continue wading through all the various jumble of tiles? I feel like “let me out of here!”

Absolutely it’s more confusing. It’s like a mad scientist developer (or a former Facebook programmer) is making changes, just because he can.
