alphagev Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 I was inspired by @gajuseidi (congress to you!) and his quotation of Dylan Thomas' "Do not go gentle into that good night". Missed it? Scroll down the "SPAM, Trust Levels and topic "clean up"" thread and congo everybody there for good. I'd love to read your favorite poems or simply words that put you in a particular mood. You can also share song's lyrics. Here's the poem I want to share it's a a parody of the poem "Comin' Through the Rye".James Clerk Maxwell - Rigid body sings Gin a body meet a body Flyin’ through the air. Gin a body hit a body, Will it fly? And where? Ilka impact has its measure, Ne’er a ane hae I, Yet a’ the lads they measure me, Or, at least, they try.

gajuseidi Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Thank you @alphagev, I'm honored! I do have quite a few poets whose works I adore. One of the latest poem that I liked was by a lithuanian poet Vytautas Mačernis. He was a very young poet who tragically died at 23. This poem is from his collection "Autumn sonnets": Vakaro sutemos mėlynai pilkos Kužda – ateisianti greitai naktis. Jos kaip lengvųjų draperijų šilkas Glosto pavargusias mano akis. Dega ugnis židiny. Besvajojant Kartais sušvinta mintis nerami Ir degdama kaip anglis žaižaruoja - Pasivaidena veidai pamiršti, Bet pamažu vis gilyn ir gilyn Mėlyno sapno svajingon šalin Grimzta per dieną išvargus dvasia. Ten, kur tamsybė gaivi viešpatauja, Vėlei, būties pradmenų pašvęsta, Gims ji ateinančiam rytui iš naujo. The auto-translation will probably be way off, but hopefully it helps to get a little gist of it. 😊 The evening twilight is blue-gray Whispers - a night coming soon. Its like light drapery silk Stroking my tired eyes. Burning fire in the fireplace. Dreaming Sometimes the enlightened thought is restless And burning like coal glows - False faces are forgotten, But slowly getting deeper and deeper Away from the dream of a blue dream Sinking in a day of exhausted spirit. Where darkness reigns refreshingly, Late, the beginnings of being sanctified, She will be born again tomorrow morning.

Congress, corgi, congo, condo, compound, they ALL mean congratulations. Similar to fiber meaning Fiverr and sells meaning sales.

I'll be here all week. 😛

Call me naive but I believe Lithuanian is way more appropriate to deliver the message of this poem. Of course I had to go through the English translation but still. Thanks for sharing it, I learnt somethign new today! 3 hours ago, zeus777 said: Oh but actually here in Fiverrland, believe it or not congress means congratulations! Thanks for explaining Fiverrland's vocabulary! I'm realizing I'm spending too much time on the Forum as I've congo and congress even in a serious thread. Oh, no sorry I did it again. Really liked the Limerick, tho. Never wrote a Limerick but I tried some Haiku in the past. Still don't know if they were good or not 🤣
rachelbostwick Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Sorry if this is too serious for the topic, but here is a poem that I dearly love, on an image that I made for a very close friend of mine who also loves it. (The poem is note QUITE out of copyright, so I have no right to post this and I wouldn't ever sell anything like this to a client. I just made it to share with a friend.) Adventure Robert William Service 1874 – 1958 Out of the wood my White Knight came: His eyes were bright with a bitter flame, As I clung to his stirrup leather; For I was only a dreaming lad, Yet oh, what a wonderful faith I had! And the song in my heart was never so glad, As we took to the trail together. "Friends and lovers, good-bye," I said; Never once did I turn my head, Though wickedly wild the weather min were the rover's rags and scars, And the rover's bed beneath the stars, But never the shadow of prison bars, As we ranged the world together. Dreary and darkling was the trail, But my Knight was clad in a gleaming mail, And he plucked from his plume a feather. And oh how foolishly proud was I! "I'll wear it," I told him, "till I die; Freemen we'll be of sea and sky, To the ends of the earth together." Yet now I know by my failing breath I'm ripe for the last adventure, Death, And I've reached the end of my tether: But my Knight of the shining mail is there, And his eyes are bright and he bids me dare: So into the Dark let's boldly fare, Into the Dark . . . together.

Especially this one gives me the goosebumps. Thanks for sharing
surajkartha Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.. for some reason these are the lines that struck with me: Water, water, every where, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, every where, Nor any drop to drink.
