Unbearable Fiverr Fees

So yes to $5 but no to $7? It’s a small difference.

In fairness, it’s not a small difference if you order multiple services regularly from several different sellers.

My crypto news gig used receive 2-3 orders a day. Next day delivery ensured that buyers were always publishing up to date news and insights on their plaforms. Suddenly asking someone to cost an extra $4.50 per day into what might be a fixed content marketing budget they have, isn’t always feasible.

My buyers started asking to order in bulk to avoid high fees. However, I can’t turn around 10 articles a day. Deliveries had to be staggered and because of this, new content wasn’t always relevant anymore.

The same situation is likely applicable to lots of different contexts on Fiverr. With a one-off logo $2 isn’t much to moan about. For anything content or social media marketing based where fresh content is required on a near daily basis, unexpected price hikes will leave buyers feeling sour. Especially when these only appear at the checkout stage.

One solution is to use milestones. However, milestones are limited and offer sellers very little protection.

I too do not like that $2 fee, but I guess it is inevitable now. And we only waste time in talking about it.
I read most of the thoughts that others have put up here and most are right. I liked the discussion.

One thing that I can surely feel now, that those who used to resell their work on Fiverr, will have less profit now.

Not a Good Place to Work for Resellers!

With the increasing fees, I think reselling will not be as much profitable as it used to be, earlier. This I like too!

Only when I ordered a $5 gig recently, did I understand this (though it was for my own use). For me, spending that extra $2 from my earnings here on Fiverr, is too much. I had to work for $2.5 to earn that money.
And when I gave it away, Fiverr does not even show it up on my transactions or earning statement. Only when I open that particular gig, I see $2 fee. This was not there earlier, when I paid only the gig amount and got 100% refund to my personal account if I had to cancel.

Now, even a regular seller like me, will think twice before ordering a gig for a skill that I do not posses. Firstly, I have to pay much more value for a $5 gig and secondly, I know that I have to choose the best provider and be sure that she will deliver what I want because I cannot afford to cancel the order too, less I lose that $2 for no gains at all.

NOTE: I am only using a $5 for all calculations because it is a $5 gig platform.

I agree with Andy that it adds up. Since I’m also a buyer it is frustrating to have to spend an extra $2 for the gig, then an extra $2 if I realize I need a source file extra, then another $2 if I want to leave a tip. I often buy inexpensive gigs for micro-jobs that help me out, but since September I’ve spent a fair chunk just on fees since I was trying samples from different sellers.

In November I’ve been more careful to do certain things myself or outsource it to someone from popular online classifieds. I’ve been lucky enough to find 3 people in my area who will do small jobs for me and I just pay them directly. It’s leading me further and further from buying anything but bigger jobs on Fiverr when I would have put the money here.

you get 4$ and buyer pays 7$

if buyer had to pay 5.5$ what do you think?

you would get more job…

This complaint is getting old. If you’re a cheap seller, undervaluing your services at only $5, then yes, a $2 fee can seem expensive for your buyers. But, then again, YOU are the one choosing to sell you services for cheap, cheap, cheap. Value your work, charge what you are worth, and the $2 fee (or 5% of any order over $40) is not going to be an issue.

If you’re a cheap seller, undervaluing your services at only $5, then yes, a $2 fee can seem expensive for your buyers.

We’ve had this argument before, not everyone can charge $50 and get orders. Not every buyer has $50 they can spend.

Fiverr began as a $5 platform, the idea that everyone has $5 was their USP.

Now Fiverr adds a $2 fee which contradicts their USP.

Also, for most sellers, it’s about getting sales. What good is charging $50 if nobody orders?

Cheap is good, cheap is the reason people go to Walmart instead of hiring a tailor, it’s the reason people can afford a Las Vegas vacation with rooms at Circus-Circus for $19 a day. Do you think that casino undervalues itself? They simply know that if they get the crowds, they will make money.

There’s a Fiverr competitor that charges no commission but demands a $1,000/year membership. Does that sound like a good deal to you? To me it sounds like a horrible deal.

I accept Fiverr’s commissions, but the fees are annoying my clients and they’re hurting my business. That I don’t accept.
