Hi, everyone!

What’s new & exciting? Not sure what I’m supposed to tell you about myself, here. I have a degree in digital design & motion graphics and I live in Seattle. I’m hoping to sell my services.

Forgive me for asking a Fiverr 101 question that, I’m sure, has been asked and answered countless times, but where can I find a good explanation of how this site works? Specifically, how does anyone make any decent money - let alone a living - $5 at a time? How is that possible? $5 is peanuts. It’s LESS than peanuts. $5 is well below the already-inadequate minimum wage. That’s not even a full hour’s pay. That’s maybe 45 minutes of work. What can anyone do that takes less than 45 minutes? If I wanted to edit a photo or a video for someone, no matter how simple the task may be, it’s almost certainly going to take longer than 45 minutes, and that’s assuming I’m willing to work for less than minimum wage, which I’m not, so how in the name of Zeus’ beard does anyone make any decent money here?

And if someone can explain that to me, I’d love any tips or suggestions anyone has for what I can do as a graphic designer/video editor.

Simple. Make your gig the far more simple, just make it simple worht 5 dollor. And you can ask more if the complexity increases. It depends on you how you choose the sinplest and complex that appeal people for that. And also you can increase the price of you gigs. So if your gig worth more than 5 dollor do it. You can also make package with more revenue out of it. I make animation but not at the rate of five dollor but for 20 dollor a ranging from 10 secs. And I have made 75 dollor from my first sale. And have made 175 dollor out of 3 works…
So, that’s how one can earn a little enough out of Fiverr. I hope that one day I will start getting 3 to 5 order a day each of 20 dollor …Lol. 😉

If you haven’t already read Strengths Finder 2.0 and taken that assessment, I suggest you do so, because it should give you the language to express your strengths and help you to brainstorm some gigs for which you are especially well qualified. Check out the writing of Chris Guillebeau and Tim Ferriss. By Josh Kaufman, I recommend The First 20 Hours: How to Learn Anything… Fast! and The Personal MBA. Also, you could read Influence by Robert Cialdini and Get Anyone to Do Anything by David J. Lieberman.

Hi and welcome.

To add to what useful replies you already got, look at the gigs people in your category sell and observe what exactly the basic 5$ gigs offer. But don´t just look at top sellers’ gigs, also at those of others just starting out like you, to compare and get an impression on what the fiverr price point for what is in your field, it might differ, sometimes greatly, depending on how long a seller is here, on their qualifications etc.

$5 is a fantastic wage!
In my country it can be several times the minimum wage - depending on the amount of time you work for it. $5 gets you 10-15 mins of my time to carry out one of the services I provide. You can hire me to do 10 mins of work or a full day - the choice is yours.
My advice is to consider how much you need to earn per hour to make it worthwhile for you and then work out your pricing from there. Initially you will need to do more work for less money but you should consider this period your internship or apprenticeship and take the time to learn how to do things perfectly. When you get some reviews under your belt you can then start putting your pricing up.
Final tip - never scoff at $5. My most regular buyer (average of once weekly for 14 months now) started off with a $5 order to try me out but didn’t tell me that at the time. To date they alone have paid me 4 week’s wages out of 14 months. If I had 14 like them I wouldn’t need anyone else!
