When did Twitter cards start working?

I recently used a Gig link in a Tweet, and I noticed that it actually pulled up information about the Gig! About a year ago all I got was a description of Fiverr. Did I miss an announcement?

I think this has been available for a while now. At least, I’ve made use of it since I signed up - not just on Twitter, anyway. I’ve used it on WhatsApp, Facebook, and Google Plus
