Fiverr's Changing ...Are You?

It's not that simple - it's much more expensive to acquire a new client than to keep an existing one, that's business 101. Specially given that we just went through a pandemic, which caused a massive spike in people looking for remote services. It's not that easy to replicate that, and it's certainly very expensive. If it could change almost annually, anyone could create a new platform and take off.

Also, if they remove low-priced gigs, more than half the sales on this platform (if not more) will go away, because I am certain most sales are under the $50-$100 pricepoint. And there's no denying those people with lower prices can find other places to sell. 

Fiverr could remove some or all those questionable gig categories, but they are intrinsic to their identity. Plus, some of them are great revenue generators. And this is a service platform, you have professional services, but there are also services "for fun". Could they go ahead and split the platform into "fun" and "professional", each with its own part of the website? Maybe. 

I don't think their changes to Pro were major, if anything they are doubling down on AI and I am certain there's a major decline in revenue due to AI fulfilling a lot of services. I for one have way less revenue than last year, and I see a major decline in sales for most sellers at least within my category. But it is what it is, we need to adapt, in this case Fiverr can do very little. I skip the AI webinars in general, there was one for writers but all I learned from there was how can I use AI as a business owner to write my own content, not as a writer. So yeah, those webinars are a clear skip at least for me. 

 

Sierra Mist is a flavor of soda that was available across the U.S. as of 2003 and was so popular, they launched a cranberry, and twist, flavor later on. As of this year, 2023, they rebranded to Starry. It's never too late to change a bad brand name.

While that is true, I'm not sure how that applies to re-branding. Acquisition and Retention are both on-going essentials regardless. If you stop acquisition, the company dies on the vine. If you need to do acquisition, it can be shaped however you desire.

I definitely think we're discussing different things. I mean how to make Fiverr not seem like a dollar store rather than how to go back to its All Time High.

It happens, but at the level of the vertical almost rather than "anything and everything" like Fiverr does. I tested one related to matching companies and PR specialists back in the day. We had LinkedIn try to make one recently. We might simply be in the 10,000 who don't know about those new competitors.

I prefer the previous name from your example, but that shows how subjective names are. I am sure Fiverr will be fine if they change their name. But there will be people that dislike the name, some will not use the platform due to the name change, etc. That's how people are, they react differently. I don't care if they change their name, I care more about changes that affect sellers, really.

This one is more of a niche example, Musk has a fascination with X, it's not the first time he dabbled into x.com. Good for him, he has the money to do that.

The US presidential election is only 15 months away. Pandemic 2.0 is standing by and ready to go.

I think about this a lot because my business on Fiverr is fairly new and I know that many freelancers don't make it past the first two years of business. I'd really like to pass the two-year mark and last a lot longer than that!  ...Kudos and hats off to all the sellers who have been at this for 5 years or more!🥳🙌

So the question is, with all of these changes on Fiverr's platform over the last year, are you also changing? Or are you just watching on the sidelines as your business is getting left behind?

Buyer Requests: Although I never really used it, I know that the loss of Buyer Requests was a huge blow to many sellers. Some sellers relied heavily on Buyer Requests to keep their businesses running. Those who were able to quickly adjust to this loss are doing better than the ones who didn’t make any changes to their businesses.

AI: The rise of sellers using AI tools changed the way I do business. I had a strict no-Zoom policy until this year but now I have Zoom calls every week. It started when buyers wanted to verify my language abilities and then kind of grew from there. This change in my business forced me to step out of my comfort zone and adapt (or get left behind). This meant I had to deal with a cancelation and a blow to my Buyer Satisfaction Rate as I navigated this new way of doing business for me.

Fiverr Updates: Whenever Fiverr rolls out new updates and features, I always ask myself, “Am I the type of seller that Fiverr wants? Do I align with the direction that it's heading?” In many cases, my answer is “No” or “Not quite,” so I know I need to make adjustments to my business.  This is really hard for me because sometimes I not only have to change how I do things, but I might also have to redefine who I am or take risks to try something new. Or shut down gigs that I have an emotional attachment to.

So what are your thoughts about the recent changes on Fiverr's platform?

 That's a very interesting analysis, of course we've to adapt the changes/updates, otherwise there's noway that we can survice on Fiverr.

His motives for buying the platform were sketchy from the start. And his decisions thus far in changing how the platform operates were even more short-sighted. Any rebrand of Twitter isn't going to solve anything because it's still going to reflect the alterations that he's made.
