Fiverr allows buyers to scam?!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am dissatisfied with the customer support service as they provide only auto-generated responses that do not answer my questions. They gave me misinformation and also canceled an order on behalf of a buyer without providing valid reasons. So what exactly happened?

As a new seller on Fiverr, I provided a buyer with a custom design package for her apartment at a low price of $180. The offer included two revisions, but when the buyer wanted me to keep providing different selections until she was completely satisfied, I let her know that she has only one revision left and that I have to charge extra for more revisions. That was a huge problem for her. She told me that I have to work until she is satisfied at no extra cost because that's my job. Then she tried to cancel the order, and I declined.

By the way, my designs were of course inspired by her preferred styles and feedback. I already worked with so many other satisfied clients and I am a professional. She changed her mind repeatedly and had zero communication skills. It's important to keep in mind that interior design is a collaborative process. Her behavior and attitude toward me were inappropriate and disrespectful. I worked with so many other clients where a much bigger budget was involved, and they all were so nice and respected me as a designer. She had absolutely no eye for design and wanted to make me choose, for example, bulky furniture for her 80-square-foot living room while also saying she wanted a minimalistic look at the same time. She also didn't understand the role of a designer or what "design" meant. Design works as a whole concept to achieve her goals. She didn't understand that unrealistic expectations and unreasonable demands can be detrimental to the creative process and the end result. This was also her second time working with and being unsatisfied with a designer.

After I declined the cancellation, she extended the review period for three days. The new deadline for the review was April 10 at 19:13. A few days ago, I contacted customer support to find out if the review time could be extended again. The response was that the review extension should work only once per delivery, meaning if they extended it for 3 days, they couldn't add an additional 2 days as the review extension request was already placed.

The buyer had until April 10 at 19:13 to either request revisions or accept the delivery before the order was automatically completed. However, the deadline passed without any response from the buyer, neither a request for revisions nor an acceptance of the delivery. The order also did not get automatically marked as completed. To my dismay, she extended the review period for an additional day AFTER April 10 at 19:13. This is unacceptable and has left me feeling scammed. That's when I contacted the support team again and received only the auto-generated emails that I had already received. And then, all of a sudden, customer support canceled the order, but they didn’t give me a reason why. I already read the terms and asked customer support in which cases they could cancel this order. I am sure there is no legal reason for the cancellation. I provided her with the services I promised.

As a buyer on Fiverr, I've already spent more than $2000 on more than 20 services in total. I wasn't always satisfied with the end results, but I always had the decency to pay for the work and time a seller had put in. As a seller on Fiverr, I really feel scammed.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you have similar experiences as a seller?

I am definitely not going to provide my services here anymore and will stick to my own contracts and keep working with more respectable clients who don't try to scam me.

Is the buyer still available on the platform? If not, most likely they did a chargeback via their payment method, in which case Fiverr automatically removes them from the platform.

Sorry this has happened to you. I hope you find a resolution. What I will say is that in your description it does say "offer unlimited product selections and revisions". If the client spotted this before or after being asked to pay for additional revision they could have used this to their advantage to cancel the order. I don't know for sure, I'm just seller and having nothing to do with customer service.

@leannelrivers In another gig, I was offering unlimited selections and revisions. In the gig she booked, I was offering two revisions. However, I created a custom offer with two revisions.

Fiverr compensated me with the full $144 after checking this case on my behalf. And it fortunately doesn't count as canceled.

I paused my gigs for now because I don't think it's worth the hassle here.

Well, I'm at least glad that you got your money back. If you do decide to start your gigs again, I would make revisions the same across the board as a starter. Don't give anyone potentially looking to rip you off anything to go on. You can always offer more revisions to customers when they contact your or order.
