Is there more to this than fiverr?

I started with fiverr a little over a year ago. I am a writer and I have done pretty well out of fiverr. I have been able to build my feedback score and adjust my pricing to reflect the time and skill I put into a piece of work.

I don’t like putting all my eggs in the same basket so I have started to look elsewhere for work. I have made local connections, set up my own website and found customers away from fiverr.

Has anyone else used fiverr as a starting block to go on to greater things? Have they found the experience on fiverr useful or more of a hindrance?

I’m interested to hear how others have found balancing life on fiverr with life in the real world.
