New buyer message marked as "promoted" but they say they found me through a Twitter post..

I'm paying to have my gig promoted and this isn't the first time this has happened. I see a message from a new buyer and they say "oh I found you through so and so or your Twitter ad" (my twitter ad is pretty good) and their message will say "promoted" as if Fiverr directed them to me but what actually happened is I'm directing these people to Fiverr. So what is Fiverr promotion actually doing for me? I'm not seeing a huge influx of buyers through them. I have a great word of mouth and that's about it. So what gives? Anyone have this issue?

Hi @oddtop,

I'm the Product Manager of Promoted Gigs at Fiverr.

We currently do not advertise off-site, meaning on third-party websites such as Twitter. The new buyer might have found you on Twitter and then browse Fiverr to reach out to you. As the "PROMOTED" badge appears on the message, the new buyer must have clicked on one of your ads on Fiverr at some point.

Regards,

Tom

Hey Tom, thanks for the reply. Well actually what happened is they clicked on my website through my "ad" which on Twitter is just a funny video I posted about my services which I do not pay to promote, it's been shared organically, but anyway the way I understand it is they came to my profile directly from the link on my site. Idk it's just kinda fishy. I guess I'll just stop paying for the promoted gigs for a while and see if I see a difference at all. Anyway thanks for your input.
