Profile photo versus logo versus illustration

I’m thinking of changing my logo to a photo as it seems I’m here to stay for a little while but I’m wondering if it’s a good thing/bad thing/indifferent thing.

I know our senses seem to tell us that personal photos are a good thing, but do we have any proof? Personally, I find it easier to identify logos than faces in a list of users and gigs which can’t be a bad thing when you’re in that list. I have what I think is a healthy wariness about putting my photo on the internet but if it makes for an improved, more personal relationship with my buyers then I can see it as something worth doing.

Now taking arguments for and against.

Have you noticed in most advertisements they use people? There is a reason for this. Our brains are wired to seek out faces. We want to see who we are buying from.

Since I changed to a photo from a logo I have only had one new message enquiring about ordering a gig. This could be a coincidence, after all it’s only been a day, but I’m not sure the photo is going to last.

I’ve used a logo for a good year now, and I consider myself having a good amount of sales. I didn’t notice a change in orders.

I think you look very businesslike and honest. I think it is a plus to have your photo there.

I appreciate your support (honestly) but I’m amused because I’m lying down on my couch so that the wrinkles are hidden by gravity 🙂
As it happens I had an influx of enquiries overnight so I’m guessing it was a coincidence. The photo stays for now.
