First you should read Fiverr's Community Standards attentively, Than you may open your first gig. Because there is a lot of things that you should know (e.g. gig image size or how you will make a perfect gig etc.)

If  I make a video for a gig, can i use the jpg image of that gig?

You can add both video and images at the same time. But in that case video will be displayed as thumbnail in your gig and images will remain underneath.

 1. You gig will show in Fiverr search after Approval. 

2. You can check your gig status from Fiverr Support option.
