When purchasing logo files, are vector files the same as source files?

I see a lot of sellers saying to purchase the vector files but on the price list I only see source files for sale. Are they the same thing?

Usually people want vector files when they say source files for logos but you’d have to ask the seller if they don’t specify. A vector file could still be in a different format than a buyer wants.

Also, you could have someone clueless trying to design a logo using the freebie Vistaprint generator which would be useless. Worse, someone new could be trying to design you a logo in Paint and charging extra to send you an awful bitmap as the source file. You have to make sure because if you buy or sell just “source file” then it’s not fair to anyone if the file isn’t as expected.
