Is offering extras as a Tip bad idea?

Question

Hello, I just recieved an order, the order is about rewriting a book, and I just realised that the work is way too much to do and the price I had kept of my package was way too less, I am feeling very demotivated and sad about it, so I was thinking that after finishing 50% of the work and showing it to the client/buyer I can offer an extra saying that it's not compulsory for them to buy this extra but to appreciate my efforts please buy this extra (just as a Tip), will this ruin my impression and is a bad idea or is it fine, I won't force the buyer, will just ask as a favour, I know there is a Tip feature too in Fiverr but still it's very unlikely that they may choose it voluntarily, or should I just ask them to tip me? I feel that they might not tip me after completion of the order but might still buy the extra, in the risk of that might be I won't do the 50% remaining work properly. And anyway I am not forcing the client, so should I offer extra just as a Tip?

Hi @perfectwork25, since the buyer paid for this order in full, making a partial delivery is against our Terms of Service and they could cancel the order and get a refund for it. Also, deciding to leave a tip is completely up to them and you shouldn't ask for it. Please make sure to get familiar with our ToS before proceeding, and avoid any violations as they'll lead to a restricted/blocked account. Good luck 🍀

Yes, I know that it isn't right to deliver a partial order on Fiverr and I was anyway not going to do that, I always make sure that my clients are satisfied, I wouldn't have delivered a partial order to them instead I would have sent them the attached rewritten book on conversation box of order instead of delivering it and would have asked for an extra then just as a favour and would not have forced them, but I guess it is also against Fiverr TOSs, so I won't do that too. I always make sure that my clients are satisfied and do not anything that might displease them or will make them ask for a refund, you can also check that in my account orders, I always make sure my client is happy otherwise I give them refund. But I didn't know that we can't ask for a Tip too, even as a slight reminder, I have earlier also never asked for a Tip, and will also not ask for it in the future as you said that it is against the Fiverr tos. Thank you for your assistance.

I have had similar instances a couple of times where the scope of work changed or turned out to be significantly MORE after buyer placed the order.

I simply explained it to them and requested them to pay extra for the revised scope of work - BEFORE starting the work. Buyers understood the situation and accepted the 'request for extras'. Most buyers we come across on the platform are fair and honest and they understand that people here are doing their work with utmost sincerity and integrity.

Explain it to buyer honestly instead of trying roundabout alternatives - which seem and sound unfair.

Yes, that seems like a great alternative as this will neither seem unfair to the buyer and will also fulfill my motive of requesting the extras from the buyer, this is actually the best solution in this case. Thank you for your help
