It's not compulsory at all. In fact, only a small percentage of people actually market their Gigs effectively with Social Media.
90% of sellers spam their Gig links on their own personal Social Media pages, or in Facebook groups. Unless your target market is your family and friends, or other sellers also spamming their Gig links in groups, it's a waste of time.
If you are going to use Social Media for marketing, you have to invest into business pages, creating or paying someone to make logos, establishing credibility, making how you present yourself professional and refined, engaging with others in your niche, making engaging content that will be liked and shared, and investing in spending your own money on paid advertising, alongside many other factors.

If you want your Gig to rank naturally without the use of Social Media, you just have to get the basics right.
Ensure your Gig is attractive and clearly shows what you offer, your English is 100% spot on, show a fantastic portfolio of what you're capable of, make sure your customer service is excellent, show as much credibility as possible, and make sure that your price point reflects the quality of work that you deliver. Why does the fact that OP is asking for advice on other methods apart from Social Media to rank their Gig make them lazy?

The fact they're showing the initiative to ask for advice and maybe understand that social media isn't the most effective way to promote your Gig would in fact show that they're not lazy.
If you don't have anything productive or interesting to contribute, don't contribute.
