My best advice for newbies is don’t.

Set up social media profiles. Go to Craigslist. Pass out business cards. Make a website. Post youtube videos. Do anything you can to spread the word about your service, but don’t invest yourself in building up a Fiverr gig. Fiverr is not a safe place to build a business. And for goodness sake – don’t post your Fiverr gigs to your social media accounts!! All you’ll be doing is building Fiverr’s brand, not your own.

If you’re really hurting for cash, I understand. I really do. But unless people are lining up to order without you having to do any marketing, Fiverr is not a good solution. And even if you have all the customers you could want through Fiverr, you STILL need to build off site. There will come a day when the financial pressure has eased a little, but if all your customers are stuck on Fiverr, you’ll still be trapped.
