one concern is that freelancers on certain other platforms can charge less, meaning Fiverr can lose it's edge if not careful.
Exactly.
Once you are the standard, you can control the market. You can drive the others, that need to charge more because they need more capital to scale, out of business by lowering your costs.
If I have a platform with 1M users, and I can charge 10%, I'll be making much more than the platform that has 100k users charging 20%, all while dumping on them pricewise, and becoming even more attractive and stealing all their userbase. It's a no brainer.

Hence the 20%.
Nope. It costs money to scale. Once scaled up, it doesn't cost that much anymore. So yeah, hence the 20% at first - but the ability to scale that back gradually.

I look forward to selling on your platform when it reaches 3.42 million active buyers.
Well, obviously that ain't happening. Scale is the challenge. That I do not know how to do (and costs a lot of money).

I'm sure you could do it cheaper, but I'm not so sure it would be a better freelancing platform.
Oh, it would - because I actually know how it is working in one, unlike the decision makers here. They have no clue, clearly.

Don't threaten me with a good time!
In any case, we already have fixed costs. Seller plus is a fixed cost. Is it fair that a $2M seller pays the same for it than a $0 seller?

but that alone won't cover the operating costs of Fiverr.
That's another one - Fiverr's operating costs, like almost all tech companies, are ridiculously overinflated. I could run something like this on 1/10 the budget, easy. A lot of overpaid management should get the axe, to start.

Should a seller making $2M pay the same as a seller making $200? You know I love the idea of a paywall, but that alone won't cover the operating costs of Fiverr.
If they run Fiverr the same costs, then yes, of course. If the $200 costs fiverr more in terms of customer support, etc., then he should actually pay more.

Besides, you do already. You're renting space on Fiverr to showcase your gigs, for 20% of whatever you earn. 🤑
I know, and I disagree with it. Unfortunately, it's either that or nothing, so it will have to be that. But I'd much rather pay a flat fee.

kind of like paying rent.
Rent is fixed cost. I would never rent anything that charged a % of anything. That's my issue with taxes as well, btw. It's total bs, should be a bill like any other. My electrical and water bill do not depend on how much I make - they depend on how much I spend.

But anyway, "too many clients to invoice" sounds like an amazing problem to have. Give me problems like that all day long, please.
My problem is always not making enough, never the other way around.

you still need to pay for them, and they'll quit if you make them invoice hundreds of clients using Google Dogs and Excel.
Why would they quit for that? If they're paid by the hour, they should love it lol.

How do you invoice your clients? Manually? I tried that and the mess nearly killed me.
Yes. It's alright, nothing beats free. Low volume, high price, not a big deal.
If I'm dealing with hundreds of clients, I'll be rich anyway. I'll hire someone to take care of that for me lol.

I don't see any need for a CRM. I do not use an invoice system, no. I do have a website and e-mail, but that's next to nothing, honestly. Cloud services? I use filemail for transfers, but I need to use it for fiverr anyway, because their file handling system is atrocious, so I'm paying either way. Ah, and I spend zero on marketing, yeah.

I can and will because the argument must take into consideration that your leads from outside the platform costs you more or the same in terms of marketing, funnels, upkeap of CRMs, invoicing software and so on. You don't have to do that on Fiverr. So instead of offering your projects for 20% less outside of Fiverr, charge the same, and pocket what's left.
This is not true though. I deal with multiple clients outside the platform and it costs me zero. I don't need to pay for ANY of that.

A sticking point for many is their 20% commission. Personally, I just factor this into my rates, but others argue that it’s steep compared to fees on other platforms.
You can't look at it like this, because the counter argument is obvious - hire me directly, outside the platform, and get your project done for 20% cheaper. When we're talking about $10 projects, it doesn't matter. When we're talking about $10k projects, it does.
The more expensive you are, the harder it is to justify your rate being 20% higher than it could be (and is) when dealing directly.
To put it in simpler terms, it's like VAT. It's always the end consumer paying for it - and there's a limit to how much the end consumer will take. It's not the seller paying 20%, it's the buyer. So you can't say "as a seller, I don't care about the 20%", because it's not your problem. It's the buyer's problem. And the buyer does care about the 20%, specially when that means literally thousands of extra dollars paid for nothing.

y not doing more to block people putting their display name as "Fiverr Support" (when it's happened again today (edit: or maybe 3 days ago, which is still a long time after someone else reported the same display name being used for a scam), when it's already been stated to them that the fraudsters are putting their display name as that), attaching Fiverr logos to their messages and asking new users to "click on" (or scan) QR codes they're not doing the best they can to avoid people getting contacted scammers trying to take their info, and they're not really educating people enough about this in case their systems can't detect those users.
I agree that Fiverr should block all users from using "Fiverr" on their profile names, as well as the fiverr logo for their profile pictures. Obviously.
However, the user I replied to was implying that Fiverr does not keep user's personal information safe, and that's not true. Fiverr does not share or disclose any user information other than the information the user chooses to show (such as profile name, profile picture, etc.), so their assertion is incorrect.
Fiverr should definitely institute better systems to control scammers, but that's very different from saying "Fiverr doesn't keep your personal information safe". That's not up to Fiverr (unless the platform itself shares that data, which is not the case), that's always up to you. Now, it's true that many internet users have no clue what they're doing, but then maybe they shouldn't be on the internet. You need a driver's license to drive a car. Maybe it's time to start requiring a license to use the internet. The amount of people falling for the most obvious scams is insane. It's not a security problem - it's a literacy / education problem. Fiverr can't fix that.

people really need to use common sense here.
If your account was suspended, you would get an email from Fiverr saying it's suspended. not an inbox message.
how does a bank card verify your account when your account is not created with a bank card? the bank card could belong to anyone. There is no verification here at all. it's just a phishing attempt.
Regardless of what the user name is, if someone sends you a message asking for your credit card details via your inbox alarm bells should start ringing. Any legit customer support on any platform will not ask for credit card numbers at all. Payments are sent by encrypted means to meet PCI requirements. Not by a QR code linking to a Mickey Mouse website.
look at the website address. you dont need to be a security consultant to realize it's a Mickey Mouse address.
Maybe this is what we actually needed to get rid of all the clueless meksells. People who fall for this have no business being freelancers. It's not personal, it's simply they don't have the skills required. If they don't have the common sense not to fall for this, how can they navigate running a business online and dealing with clients? It's simply not possible.
I mean, it's challenging for me, it takes a lot of work and effort, and I look at these scam attempts like child's play. That people falling for them can make a single $ online puzzles me deeply.

It says on their website that they will keep your information safe, yet they allow users to join who have their name is the new username.
They do keep your information safe. That has nothing to do with what other people can pick as their display name. Those scammers didn't have access to ANY of your information, other than your (public) display name.
You gave them your credit card details, wth where you expecting?

Seems you really got message from fiverr to follow the instruction to restore your account.
I suggest because of doubt, you could create a ticket for fiverr support, after assure you can follow the instruction. It's a scam. No need to waste CS's time. Report, and never follow any instructions like this - Fiverr will never contact you in your inbox.

I'll keep paying it, regardless of increases. Unfortunately, RTO is mandatory to work here under the new rules, and it's locked behind the paywall. RTO should be the way the platform works by default, but it is what it is. Better than not having it at all.

How do you recommend following a job that is going to have a lot of feedback? I mean, I am going to show the buyer the product in several instances of its progress... through the same fiverr chat? Thanks for the quick response!
I probably am not the right person to advise on that, as that's not my workflow, I only deliver final work, never anything during the process. Maybe look into milestone orders.

Delivery time only applies to the first delivery. After you deliver, the clock doesn't matter for revisions.

Another golden goose quitting Fiverr. Is this a trend?

We have vastly different experiences then. Fiverr is anything but luxury. It's low value.
We have millions of meksells, people selling spells (lol), etc. It's a flea market, not high end shopping.
