The Impact of Buyer Fraud on Freelancers

Recommended Posts

In the last few days, I've had to cancel three orders after delivery, even after providing revisions. The buyers easily initiate cancellations, but as a video editor, we put in hard work over the span of one to two weeks. Yet, in the end, we receive nothing for our efforts except a demotion of our gigs. What about the buyers? They create new accounts and continue such behavior, while sellers spend three to four months perfecting their gigs only to have all their hard work ruined by one fraudulent individual. So, why are we on Fiverr? Why does Fiverr encourage us to conduct all our transactions on their platform if they only prioritize buyers? I'm at my wit's end with this platform. In just a few days, three orders have been canceled, my account's reputation is tarnished, my order completion rate is affected, and my gigs have suffered negative consequences. I'm done. I have two more orders to complete, and then I'm leaving this platform for good.

I had a buyer recently place an order for a cover gig, but instead of filling out the requirements they typed "yes" in all boxes and submitted. I sent it back and sent them a nice message asking for the requirements to be redone. Never got a response and the account never came back online. I put in two separate resolution center claims to 1. have the requirements redone and 2. cancel the gig.

Because I was the one to officially cancel the gig, (because it was going to be a "late" delivery otherwise) it counted against my score and dropped it down. I had to reach out to customer support and they did remove the "canceled" order from my marks. They're now glowing again, but it was very frustrating.

I also just received a 4-star rating (first one out of 38 reviews) from a buyer who gave me an awesome review and even said they would use my services again. There has to be a better way to do this. I'm not sure if it's a moral, cultural, or accidental thing. I'm just going to stand by and see how it affects my score. Especially if they do become a repeat.
