Order Updates Through Inbox?

A buyer is asking for updates to an order sent to the message inbox instead of the order page. Is this even allowed, or is the order page more secure?

 

Might not be important, but the "buyer" isn't even the one who accepted the offer, but a friend he contacted.

It's fine. As long as you complete the order according to their requirements, it doesn't matter. If you do end up dealing with customer support, they will check the inbox too. Plus, you can always add screenshots if you escalate this to customer support. Hopefully that's not the case though.
