  1. So here is my two cents on buying.

Most of the time it depends what I am buying and for what purpose.

For example, I buy a lot of writing gigs. My process for choosing writers is like this:

    • Check out people on the forum who write well (I am on the forum a lot so I can see those who are good at it. Probably 70-80% of the writers I hired were from the forum. However, the ones I hire are those who actually contribute to conversations and can express themselves well. Those who just spam the forum will never be hired.
    • Check out their profiles; who are they and how could they relate to the article I need written. eg. I hired a student recently to write something specifically about being a student. I hired a tech guy to write about tech.
    • Check out their gigs and descriptions. What do they offer, price, word count, time-frame, etc.
    • Check reviews to see if they have any bad reviews. Assess the reviews and take them with a pinch of salt unless there is a high proportion of them.
    • If my article is something specific, I tend to send a message and ask them if they are happy to write about it.

Now, the above seems like a lot, right? Well that’s because these articles are important and writing is an art form which some can do and others think they can do but can’t. I apply similar criteria when hiring for things like video, logo, graphics etc. Once I find a writer, I tend to give them a lot of orders, even if they are not 100% suited to the particular job. It is easier than looking for a new one. I have never had an issue with any writer I have hired - every one delivered what was required.

I also hired someone recently for a very simple but time consuming job which was data collection from a site.

    For this,

    • I went to the VA section
    • selected “New Sellers”
    • opened the profiles of a couple of sellers
    • checked the price/number of hours
    • selected one which had a nice description and a good (but not the lowest) price.
    • sent them a message explaining what I wanted and was impressed when they responded asking for more info and specifics about how I wanted the data laid out.
    • Hired them through a custom offer with a delivery date that they picked. ($25)

    Now, the results…

With my recent writing orders, I received excellent work, delivered on time. I have since reordered with both.

With the data collection order, I have had 2 extension requests which were extremely polite and as I am not in a rush for it, I allowed them. I have just received their delivery and it had nothing attached so I have requested a revision obviously. I took a chance on someone without any reviews and was as nice as can be in allowing them everything they asked for to complete the order. In the end, if this is cancelled then it is not an issue as I can get someone else and it is not time dependent. However, for a lot of orders, this would have been a disaster as it would have affected me delivering for a client of mine.

So that’s the how and why I choose certain sellers over others. Had the new seller done what was asked, even with an extension, they could have counted on several repeat orders. Not a chance of that now. Just had another look at the order - the order was delivered empty 15 mins before it would have been late (for the third time). Still giving them benefit of the doubt but I can’t see this being anything other than a cancellation.

I know it is a little O/T but just want to highlight the fact that this New Seller that I hired redelivered just now and had actually done a hell of a lot more than I had asked of them so while the extensions were annoying, the final delivery was well above what was expected.

  2. I also prefer to hire sellers from the forum. I look up their profile and how they express themselves when discussing issues. At one point I was so close to hiring a seller from the forum when I randomly bumped into a conversation they were being very rude to other forum users. That was a deal-breaker.

I randomly bumped into a conversation they were being very rude to other forum users. That was a deal-breaker.

Funny enough, it isn’t for me. I have hired people that I had to suspend from the forum 😃

It really depends on the context I suppose but I haven’t not-hired someone for something that happened on the forum.

I am especially interested in how people select writing gigs. I am going to further optimizing my gigs and this has helped me get a better idea of what I can improve on.

I strongly suggest that writers create specific gigs for specific subjects, rather than just one “I am a writer, have me write anything” type gigs. It helps me as a buyer choose and helps the gigs show up in search results. Think about it - if you want a tech writer, would you just search for “writer”? Of course not, you would try out the more specific search term. Nothing wrong with having a general one too of course but specific ones are much more attractive.

Can you close this thread because of what people have turned it to be…And thank you in advance

No need, I have flagged the comments which were not appropriate to the topic and asked people to stick to it in future. It doesnt need to be removed as it is a very useful topic.

  4. Firstly - Can everyone refrain from turning this into a “new seller v lev 1 v lev 2 v TRS v Pro” argument.
These are completely useless and help nobody. Fiverr has plenty of space for all sellers.
In 2.5 years here with over 1200 completed orders, I have gone from new to TRS and not once has a buyer ever mentioned my level. Never. None. Some might have chosen me because of it but I think there are many other reasons for it.
It is probably best for people to discuss those reasons instead as these are things that people can actually control - controlling your level is much less achievable so why bother discussing it?

  5. As mentioned above, the Fiverr Forum is not the place for requesting services. As to why there was no explanation, well, the forum rules and guidelines state what is and isnt supposed to be posted here. In addition, the forum is moderated by unpaid volunteers - if we had to go and start discussions with every person who posts something that isnt allowed then we would never be able to do anything else, considering the forum has approx 600 thousand users.

As for it being authoritarian - this is the forum of a private company; any Fiverr account holders are allowed post anything once it is within the rules of the forum and main site. That is pretty standard for most company forums.

  6. This is ridiculous - you have a gig that offers a social media kit as part of the Premium package and yet you dont know what it is? You said this on your gig:

Exclusive Social Media Branding that will make you WOW!

Well, the fact that you dont even know what it is has certainly made me go WOW! but probably not in the way that Gigblast meant when he wrote it on his gig that you copied.
Sellers like you give Fiverr a bad name.

  7. That’s why I don’t like big orders.

Do you ever worry that you are missing out on the big orders that will not rip you off?

I focus on larger orders mainly.

After 1100 orders completed I have had 1 chargeback of $100. That’s all.

Anyone who is really, really worried about chargebacks, just take 2% of all earnings and set it aside as your “Bad debt protection fund” which is advisable for any business.

This will allow people to expand their business by taking away the paralyzing fear of chargebacks that some people seem to have.

  8. I get a kick out of the folks who have never had to chase a net 30 customer and hope that you can get invoices paid net 60 days.

Hmmm, I think you need to get out more Mike but yes, it really surprises me when people have never come across it. Offline, it is completely standard to get and give credit limits.

  9. Boy, does it suck where you live…I have never heard of anything like that over here.

Meanwhile I’ll stick to other freelancing platforms, where they hold my money of 5 days or less and let you enjoy the happiness of not having your money for two weeks.

Maybe in your type of business it doesnt happen but I have clients from all over Europe and this is pretty standard for the majority of agencies. Once you are making a regular income, after two weeks it doesn’t really make a difference anyway.

  10. So why not make this “industry” better than most?!

    It already is.

In many business to business services, invoices are due 14, 30 or 60 days after the work is delivered.

And that is only when they are DUE, some businesses take longer to pay and need to be constantly followed up and reminded.

With Fiverr, the payment comes without any additional work to chase it.

  11. It sounds like your profile needs to get a bit of a kickstart again.
This post is one I made which is aimed at helping people get some sales again when they have had a slow period.

What can you do when your sales have suddenly plummeted? For many people the solution is simple - come on to the forum and complain about something else which “must” have caused this. It is probable that an outside force has caused you to not get as many sales. What is also probable is that you have no control over this “outside force”. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good rant or moan every now and then as much as the next guy but I never expect my moan or rant to actually change anything. When …

  17. 🏝️

Just another fun & chill thread to pass the time.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now… Where would you go and with who? (+1)

Note: It could be a friend, family member, significant other, stranger. Frenemy, pet or even a forum member if that tickles your fancy. 🤭

    I’ll 👠 kick this thing off…

I would go to Bora Bora (Island in French Polynesia)

The BIG question who would I bring with me? I’d go alone to get some R&R time - a little outdoor frolic, meditation, skinny dipping, selfies and reading 50 shades of grey 📚

    • NO 📱 phone
    • NO 📺
    • NO work
    • NO B.S.
    • NO Distractions
    • NO stress and last but not least no male drama. 😛

    🏝️

Take it away! 🍹 (pictures are fine, too) Fyi~ post more than once it’s no biggy. See, today I wannabe in Bora Bora tomorrow it’ll be in… well stay tuned! 😎

  18. Glad we can agree on something.

By the way, are the PRO sellers under the same standards? Or are they too special to get demoted?

I believe they are subject to them yes, although a lot of the new ones were not leveled up yet anyway.

I said somewhere else that there are Ambassadors, Super Sellers and even the Fiverr Millionaire lady who were all demoted today. There were no exceptions from what I can see.

  19. So immunity from demotion?

Don’t you see how bad an idea that would be/has been?

No, it’s a great idea. I don’t know how long you’ve been on Fiverr, I’ve been here since 2013. In the good old days, people got demoted for JUSTIFIED REASONS, such as “Order cancelled. Seller failed to deliver on time.” Too many of those justify a demotion.

    4.7 does not.

    4.7 does not.

I agree with you on that - the 4.8 rating does seem high considering getting 14/15 stars on every single order would mean a 4.7.

My suggestion/ideal would be that TRS would be manually demoted as well as promoted, that there would be some consideration given for circumstances. I also think a two-strike system might be fairer, as in if you miss two requirements then it is demotion.

  20. What would loyalty to you look like?

How about letting you keep your level after you earned it?

“If I earn $100/week then it makes no difference after the first 2 weeks.”

It makes a huge difference when Fiverr is your only source of income and you want to keep your credit card balances low.

    So immunity from demotion?

Don’t you see how bad an idea that would be/has been?

Even when the warning was there for the past two+ months, approx half of level 2 sellers and 25% of TRS could not keep to those stat requirements - can you imagine what those seller stats were before this was announced?

It makes a huge difference when Fiverr is your only source of income and you want to keep your credit card balances low.

You have my sympathy (like that is worth anything, but still), but it is a one week delay on your money compared to what it was.

  21. I’ll pretend you didn’t say that. My wife, a teacher, gets paid every two weeks (i.e., every 14-15 days). She and I managed out household expenses on that payment calendar.

I’ve worked in the real world, we usually get paid biweekly, every other week. Maybe it’s different for teachers?

You’re complaining as if this is an us and them thing – respectfully, it comes across as being extremely entitled.

Doesn’t matter, even if my motives are selfish, everyone would benefit from a 7-day delivery.

Just because you’re used to something doesn’t make it right.

Then, when you earn TRS again, you can have the joy of returning to the 7-day cycle.

There are amazing sellers who haven’t earned TRS, even when they sell more than me! So why will I have a chance to earn it back?

Fiverr doesn’t care, they have ZERO loyalty towards long time sellers like me.

I have clients who operate on a 60 day payment basis.

Most agencies operate on an end of month and/or 30 days.

14 days is pretty good from how I see it.

Besides, if you are earning each week then it only makes a difference once.

If I earn $100/week then it makes no difference after the first 2 weeks.

they have ZERO loyalty towards long time sellers like me

What would loyalty to you look like? Immunity from demotion? Artificially boosted rankings? A free car every year?

  22. But the order is completed and when he ask for revision after 30 days then I don’t have the editable files to make his required changes.

Yes, I offer unlimited revisions and I do unlimited revisions but no revision after the order is completed. I keep the editable files for 15 days after the order is mark as completed and than I delete them.

I offer unlimited revisions and I do unlimited revisions but no revision after the order is completed

I think you should make that clear in your gig description and probably say it with your delivery then as unlimited can mean so many different things. To me, it should finish when the order is completed but I remember a forum post where someone was doing revisions even months later and when they went to CS they said “but you offer unlimited revisions”.

Sounds crazy/stupid but you need to clarify exactly what you offer to save yourself from this type of thing.

  23. I think it is interesting that you are asking for a way to stop people asking for more revisions even though your gigs offer “Unlimited Revisions”. I think you might find that if you refuse to revise even after the 30 days then CS might agree with a buyer who complains that you are refusing to do what you said you would do.

If you want to stop people making unreasonable requests then stop giving them unreasonable offers.

PS. Could the deleting of comments on the thread please stop - it is disruptive to discussion
