Video builds trust faster than anything else on your profile. Here's how to do it right.

Why adding video could be your most effective profile upgrade
For as long as I've been a CSM here at Fiverr, I've always encouraged my freelancers to add video to their profiles and Gigs when possible. For the longest time, though, it felt like more of a nice-to-have, something you consider adding as the cherry on top of a well-written bio or strong keywords. But that was then.
I find that in today’s market, video is more important than ever. For freelancers really looking to build trust in a time where clients are more skeptical than ever (you can thank AI for that), it’s one of the quickest ways to make your profile stand out.

Why freelancers should add videos to their Fiverr profiles

It builds trust in a way that nothing else on your profile can

A polished headshot and a well-written bio are easy to fabricate, and clients know that. However, when they watch a video of you speaking naturally on camera, it becomes easier for them to trust that a genuine, credible professional is behind the profile.

It lets you convey your value more effectively

In an era when attention spans are shrinking and short-form video content is more popular than reading, a video offers a simpler, more engaging way to leave an impression. It showcases your personality, expertise, and enthusiasm in a way that keeps prospects interested.

It separates you from your competitors

The majority of freelancers either don't have a video or have one that isn't doing them any favors. A strong, authentic video is an easy way to differentiate yourself from the rest. Clients notice it, and it can tip the decision in your favor before they even continue to read the other details of your Gig.
Now, while video can be a powerful tool, I want to stress that not all video is good video. And honestly, a poorly executed one can do more damage than not having one at all. So before you hit record, here are the most common mistakes I see freelancers make and what to do instead.

Common mistakes freelancers make with video

Not preparing the right way

I always encourage freelancers to avoid hitting record without a clear sense of what they're going to say and how they want to come across. Without that, you risk rambling with no targeted message, losing the client's attention, and actually hurting your credibility rather than helping it. That said, reading word-for-word from a script isn't the answer either. Unless you're a trained actor, this can come off as stiff and impersonal, and clients can tell.
The goal is something that feels like a real conversation, one that gives the client a genuine peek into your personality and who you are as a professional. So whether you prefer a loose outline or a full script, practice a few times before recording so that by the time you hit record, it comes across naturally.

Ignoring the basics of production and professionalism

Your video doesn’t have to be an entire Hollywood production to be great, but that doesn’t mean you should be careless with it either. Simple oversights, such as a cluttered background featuring your latest laundry load on the bed, poor lighting, or unclear audio, can turn clients off rather than win them over.
Choose a clean, clutter-free background with good lighting, like facing a window. Use headphones or a separate microphone for clearer audio if needed. You don't need expensive equipment, but these small details can make a big difference. Also, consider how you appear. Stay authentic, but dress and present yourself as you would for the clients you want to attract. If aiming for premium clients, ensure your look matches their expectations.

A vague or missing CTA

An effective video shouldn’t just look and sound nice. It’s a tool to drive orders, and conversions shouldn’t be left up to chance. Instead of ending with something vague like "check out my gigs below," be explicit about the next step you want clients to take. Something like "click the ‘Contact Me’ button to discuss your project" or "I look forward to working with you. Click ‘Order Now’ to get started today" gives clients a clear direction and moves them toward a purchase.

Your sign to finally hit record

If you've been on the fence about adding a video to your profile or Gigs, let this be your sign. It might just be the one thing that puts you ahead of the competition, helps you connect with prospective clients in a way that builds trust from the jump, and gets them excited to work with you before they've even placed an order.
