  1. Buyers Request was implemented as a means to help buyers find potential sellers to work on their project(s). It was never meant to be a permanent source for finding work. Obtaining clients is up to the seller and fiverr has provided many professional development resources over the years to assist with this (the Learning Center, Blog and past Podcasts).

If you do a search of the forums on how to get clients, you will get posts by seasoned professionals on how to go about putting your best foot forward to get the attention of potential clients. By seasoned professionals, I'm talking about the ones that leave meaningful responses, not suggestions of the likes of spamming social media and contacting buyers without permission.

The suggestion of creating a Buyers Request system like that of Upwork is a bad idea as it's based on a bidding system and may attract the wrong kind of buyers. There are some marketplaces I'm familiar with who have a Buyers Request equivalent, but it's restricted to a chosen few which I know some will complain if that style of Buyers Request gets implemented here. Fiverr is constantly changing, and many sellers are adapting to the ever-changing environment.

    Some BRs I saw today...

"Cheap deal to read a 45k book in no later than 20 days... Looking for a full review and to be posted on amazon and good reads...."

"Hi, I have a 30-day transformational prayer and meditation journal for women which has never been published. Let me know if anyone is interested to buy it and I can send three chapters for preview. Hoping to hear from you. Thanks."

"Greetings! I have novels and short stories of different genres and lengths. I need clients interested in buying already written novels and short stories. I will send the first 2-3 chapters for preview. We can discuss pricing. If interested, let me know."

"EBOOKS/NOVEL FOR SALE!!! EBOOKS FOR SALE!!! 1. 50,000 words - GANGSTER THUG NOVEL 2. 40,000 words - TEENAGE ADVENTURE 3. 20,000 words - HERBS AND SPICES EBOOK 4. 10 Scene/Episode script - ACTION MOVIE SCRIPT 5. Erotica I will send 3 chapters for preview. NB: All ebooks have never been published."

I fail to see how these help the platform, or sellers, or anyone at all.

Just seeing this brought back memories of past BR posts where clients were requesting freelancers that had published x-amount of articles on big name business publication sites to write for them. Fiverr mentioned some years ago that the BR section was going to get an overhaul so it could be more relevant. That never happened and I'm sure clients have already bookmarked their favorite/preferred Fiverr freelancers to work with. I wouldn't mind seeing it go.

It’s phase one of the solution to a wider problem on Fiverr.

The next phase will definitely shake things up a bit. 😉

Do you know if they'll make an announcement about the upcoming changes or where one is posted?

  4. Buyers Request has needed attention for years and reporting rule breakers doesn't do much. I remember when it wasn't restricted to the gigs that were offered. As soon as the new changes were implemented, BR became unpredictable.

I personally, would have loved to see the planned job board that was promised way back when. And based on all the changes and news releases of late, I doubt Buyers Request will get the TLC it needs any time soon.

  5. The top three that get me are be online 24/7, send BR daily and share to social media. These three also prompt posts inquiring why they aren't showing online, why they aren't getting BR (often times back-to-back posts) in addition to inquiries about where to share their link.

Of the three BR and social media sharing drive me bonkers. Having to explain that an empty BR is not bug is tiring. Worse yet, explaining that sharing to social media (especially without clarity) will lead to another round of blacklisting fiverr links. Hopefully this gets pinned along with the other useful posts.

  6. Is there a way to get this pinned? Three and five captures some pain points that are brought up a lot in discussions. Five tops the list as some buyers request sample work using the information from their soon-to-be order, but as soon as a seller suggests paying for said sample the buyer disappears.

  7. Increasing the delivery time is a good start. I started fiverr while I was in college and back then things were a bit different. If you’re going to do both, create a task list and schedule for how much time you need to dedicate to each item. School work always comes first followed by fiverr.

If you’re going to extend delivery time, go for 2-3 days so that you can have a safety net should anything out of the blue surface. You’re already off to a good start; keep up the awesome work.

  8. Agree to disagree but when it comes down to it some can’t take the risk of providing samples. When I first started out freelancing, I was asked for samples and learned later that my samples were being used. Now if I’m asked for samples I explain that a test sample can be ordered to which the client goes elsewhere.

I’ve been burned several times too many by clients that want work done but don’t want to pay. It got so bad that at one point I got an order to write about different hair products to which the client responded that it wasn’t what they were looking for only to discover the article I wrote for them was published on their site word for word. It’s tough turning clients away but it has to be done.

  9. Pro sellers are hand vetted by fiverr which means they are professionals in their field. Just because sales are 0 doesn’t mean they’re inexperienced. If you wish to see non-Pro gigs, you can switch off seeing them by toggling the Pro option off.

  10. You don’t need to subscribe to Adobe. If you put in a request for a design specify that you would like the finished product delivered in a PNG file with transparent background. PNG files are compatible with GIMP so this should make things a little less hectic. As the others have mentioned it’s best to get the graphics completed separate from the text.

Best course of action is to take some time and plan out what it is you’re looking for in a design so you won’t have to worry about making a lot of adjustments graphic-wise. You can also put in a request for the seller to use the gimp program to create the design so that you two can be on the same page. I haven’t used the program myself but have seen what others have created in the program over the years.

  11. You got two choices:

    1. Leave appropriate feedback for said seller OR
    2. Take this matter to Customer Support.

If you’re after a certain service then its best to check a sellers track record if any. To be safe in the future, purchase a test gig (5USD) to see if the delivered product is to your liking. If it is, then proceed to purchase more if not, move on to another seller.

  12. Let’s please remember to be professional and civil to each other.

I am a copywriter and spend a lot of time thinking and learning about buyer motivation. I love to learn about how people make decisions. It makes me a better writer and a better businessperson.

I was once a new seller on Fiverr. It was hard to get my first order. But, the best advice I ever found to breakthrough on Fiverr is to start by offering something someone would be crazy to turn down. I had a lot of skills and experience before I came to this platform. But, no buyers knew anything about me. I needed the social proof that reviews provide. I also wanted to rank up to take advantage of different features. For the first couple of months I offered to write 2 500 word articles for $5 in 24 hours. That was a ridiculously low price. Too low to make a profit. But, at that stage my goal was to get reviews because even a few reviews would lead to more sales.

It worked. I worked long hours and did amazing work. I quickly leveled up and raised my prices. I kept that same pattern. Every Fiverr seller starts from zero. Getting your first few sales is tough… But, it is up to you to put in the work to get the sales. Fiverr isn’t a magic lamp.

Today I would charge $400 for the same offer I started out with…and buyers pay it. The reason is I have put in the work to build a reputation. Nobody is going to give you anything. You have to give them a reason to give your services a try.

This post is about discovering what reasons are most attractive to buyers. So far it sounds like reviews are the biggest factor.

When I first first started on fiverr, it had just come out and I offered to write poetry; back then 5USD was the most we could charge. Got two purchases and then nothing. The platform was still new and I was in college at the time and major project came up that took me away completely.

Vacay mode didn’t exist so my account was closed out. After things settled down I went back and started another account, a lot had changed from the early days to this point. I came in with a traditional illustration gig and got a sell.

Social media wasn’t big on the radar as it seemed overly complicated, to me, to use. I’ve gotten a little better but I guess I’m overly protective of work that’s been completed outside of the platform and don’t showcase much of what I’ve done. If I were in the market to purchase something, I will search for a candidate that’s not afraid to ask questsions for clarification and will have an understanding of what I’m asking of them; especially so for niche specific requests.

  13. Having BR exclusively for new sellers will result in mixed feelings as some new buyers will be under the impression that the platform isn’t managed properly. Depending on how you look at things, the playing field is actually leveled (despite some opposing views) it’s just a matter of preference when it comes to buyers selecting sellers they wish to work with. As for those with the Pro moniker, keep in mind that not all of them depend solely on fiverr; which is a nice example of not putting your eggs in one basket.
