It’s okay if they get any other seller but they can inform it they Don't need service.

If they tell you that they're placing an order with you and then go with someone else, then yeah, I'd agree that the nice thing to do was inform you. But if they're just asking about your price and services then no, they don't owe you that.

I also show the calculations, for example, I show how many hours their job will take, what I will charge, and how much I earn per hour in their currency.

This is actually pretty good advice. I never thought about adding the hourly rate when quoting my prices. I never thought about checking it for myself, and I love calculating everything so I'm just going to do it for fun now.

  3. I agree with the others above, you weren't in the wrong. From the way he messaged, I believe that anything you said other than complying with his wants would've been a problem. I also had a buyer who didn't realize that my price was in USD while theirs was in CAD, however, when they understood they were fine. From then on, any time a buyer approached me that was outside of the US, I'd always add USD to the end of my quoted price. Sometimes, we have to do these things to just make the process easier on ourselves.

The problem is that when you lie so obviously about something like being a native English speaker, anyone reading your gigs would immediately wonder what else is untrue about your abilities. As a graphic artist, you don't need to be bulletproof in your English skills.  Why not be honest about your competence in that regard, and not cast doubt on the rest of your abilities.

I agree with this. Unless I'm looking for something regarding perfect English, the seller's language skills wouldn't concern me. And if they were honest and said, "Native is 'so and so' language" and added English as an additional language, then I'd think 'wow, that's pretty cool that they know more than one language'. I'd also ensure that when I placed the order that my English was impeccable and even if they made a mistake I wouldn't get down on them because learning a second language is hard- I'm doing it, and I get it. BUT, if they claim to be native speakers and their English isn't up to par; that's a different story.

Also, if you want to convince people that you are competent, and confident, then you should not post the following, because it screams, the exact opposite:

Please send me a message before placing an order so we can discuss of the project and make a perfect deal.

His phrasing could definitely improve, but I understand the sentiment. I do editing, and I have this written in my GIG description because a lot of times, I've encountered clients who don't know the different types of editing. So they'd purchase or enquire about one type when they're really looking for another.

  5. For me, it took a while to get my first order. And the reason I got it was because I researched the site and read so much on the forum, and finally created a niche gig. That gig got me my first customer, and from then my focus was solely on my customers and quality. In terms of gig promotion, there was one particular month when sales were slow where I used a particular social media platform, and searched for people actually looking for my services. I messaged these people directly and professionally, of the 20 messages sent, I got 1 reply and a job. The point I’m trying to make is solidifying what @vibronx said about research. It’s not just about copy and pasting your services and hoping for the best… it’s about taking matters into your own hands in a professional way.

One of my peeves on the forum is that every day/week some sellers post the same subset of questions. When all they had to do was just type it in the search bar, and the answers would appear. It just shows a lack of research, and I’ve personally stopped replying to those.
