So, what I'm envisioning is having the same thumbnail and title scenario in the inbox as what we see if someone clicks "contact seller" through a gig. 

They probably liked the work they saw in that portfolio item and want something the same or similar but often times cannot remember where they found what they liked or what it was about--especially if they're on mobile. 

There would be less back and forth from the time of initial contact to a mutual understanding what they want their project to be like. 

It would increase conversions for sellers, and Fiverr. 

Indicating which portfolio item buyers clicked "contact seller" through would help with communication & buyer satisfaction
