Meet Blackstars, the freelancers using AI tools for high-end video productions

How two creators are using AI to create budget-friendly, high-quality projects in a fraction of the time

Blackstars

Three years ago, when most people saw AI-generated video as a novelty that was still glitchy, unpredictable, and far from professional, Wioletta Kulig and Luigi Corvino saw something else entirely. They saw the future.
The husband-and-wife team didn't wait for the technology to be perfect. They dove in headfirst, experimenting day and night. They even became one of the first freelancers on Fiverr to offer AI services. Fast forward just a year later, they founded Blackstars, a creative agency that proves AI isn't just a shortcut, but a leveling tool that can help creatives deliver high-end productions at lightning speed with accessible budgets.
Ahead of the upcoming Shift Happens: Episode 3: AI Videos webinar, where we’ll get to hear more from Wioletta, I caught up with the duo to talk about their journey, the business transformation they've experienced, and what it really takes to thrive at the intersection of human artistry and AI.
Whether you're already experimenting with AI video or still figuring out where it fits into your work, their story offers some interesting perspective.
You've built a thriving business around AI, but obviously, this technology is still pretty new. Before all of this, what were you each doing creatively, and when did you two know it was time for a pivot?
For years, we worked as independent freelancers: Luigi was a successful Top Rated Seller on Fiverr focused on music production and video editing, while I came from a background in photography and video production, collaborating with directors and record labels.
When the generative AI boom started about three years ago, we were immediately electrified by its potential. Even though the early tools were far from perfect, we could see we were standing in front of something massive. We became instantly passionate, almost obsessed, with figuring out how to use it and leverage it to build a scalable business model.
That's when we realized it was time to combine our skillsets and create a real creative agency. That was the birth of Blackstars.
It's incredible that you recognized that opportunity so early and committed to it. Since making that pivot into leveraging AI, what's actually changed in your business and what's stayed the same?
What changed completely is our capacity. We can now offer a much wider range of services with significantly shorter production times. This allowed us to move from small gigs to large, complex productions that require high-level organization. AI has become a powerful engine not just for creation, but also for project management.
The human core hasn't changed at all. The artistic direction, the concept creation, the empathy required to truly understand a client and guide them—that's still us. If anything, that human touch is even more valuable now.
I'm glad you mentioned that the human touch is still important, because many are understandably concerned that AI will replace human creativity altogether. From your front-row seat, where do you think video professionals can still show up as irreplaceable artists in an AI-assisted project?
In our experience, AI doesn’t threaten creativity; it absolutely amplifies it. Before, realizing ambitious visions required expensive equipment, international travel, and months of production time.
High-level creation was often a privilege reserved for the few with huge budgets. AI has leveled the playing field. Now, what truly counts is human vision and taste, not just the size of the wallet.
That's where we remain irreplaceable: the machine can execute, but it cannot replace the human taste needed to guide it. AI simply removes the barriers, allowing us to realize our ideas with freedom and helping our clients grow their artistic careers or businesses without being held back by logistical limits.
I love that perspective. It sounds like you've managed to leverage AI really well to amplify your skill sets. I imagine there were still some challenges that came with that journey. What's been the hardest part for you?
The most challenging part was definitely educating clients about AI. Initially, people simply didn't trust AI. It's human nature: we criticize what we don't understand, and new things scare us because we don't know what to expect.
The first reaction was often rejection, criticism, or even disdain. We saw this everywhere. We had to patiently educate potential customers, often creating free demos just to prove what AI could actually achieve.
There are obviously some technical learning curves or quality control challenges that pop up along the way too. But, when you have passion, those things don't feel like a burden.
You mentioned the skepticism from clients came early on. I'm curious, has that shifted at all now that AI feels more mainstream?
Two or three years ago, we primarily attracted clients who came to us specifically because we offered AI solutions. They were the early adopters, such as musicians or tech companies launching AI features, who wanted to be part of the revolution.
But today, especially this year, the conversation has begun to change. Most clients now just want a great product at the end of the day. They're looking for professional, high-end production quality that rivals traditional shoots in terms of cost and turnaround time.
We’re always 100% transparent and never hide the fact that we use AI, but we’ve found that clients care more about the final result than the tools used to achieve it.
That's such an interesting evolution. Speaking of how you deliver that quality, could you walk us through your workflow? How do you select the best AI tools to bring your visions to life?
Our workflow never starts with the tools. It always starts with the client. We speak with them first to gain a deep understanding of their business, project, and specific needs. Only after the vision is clear do we research which combination of tools will best achieve it. Video generation models are our daily bread, but we also use AI for soundtracks, sound effects, voiceovers, and more.
The key to delivering high-end quality is constantly staying up-to-date and passionate about the work. The AI world is evolving fast, and so are the capabilities of what you can do with it.
In the upcoming Shift Happens webinar, I understand you’ll be showcasing two different examples of your AI video projects. Can you tell us more about what you believe these reveal concerning the capabilities of AI video tools?
These projects prove that the real difference isn't the technology—it's how you use it. For the artistic example, you need deep sensitivity: carefully planned lighting, composition, narrative, and atmosphere to evoke emotion.
For the business example, you need to understand the client's marketing strategy and use AI to transmit information clearly in a way that converts. In both cases, AI lets us realize complex, fully custom projects that would have been impossible or prohibitively expensive with traditional methods.
But again, the magic isn't the software. It's the people directing it.
For those tuning into your Shift Happens session, what would you hope is the one thing they walk away with?
We know some people are still hesitant to fully embrace AI. Our biggest hope is that after watching our session, those who are unsure will be convinced that AI is not something to fear. It truly is the future, not just of our work, but of our human creativity.
This has been so insightful! Thank you both for your time. It's inspiring to hear how you've turned early experimentation into a thriving business while keeping that human touch at the center of everything. I'm excited for everyone to hear more from you in the upcoming webinar.
Ready to see what's possible with AI videos?
Join us for Shift Happens: Episode 3: AI Videos. Wioletta will dive deeper into how sellers can turn AI outputs into commercial success.
