A simple, structured approach to turning conversations into orders

How to use Fiverr's Zoom feature to close more sales
Something I've noticed after working with countless freelancers: the ones who close the best projects aren't always the ones who are most skilled. They're the ones who know how to know how to build trust and make clients feel confident about ordering from a stranger online. And nothing gets you there faster than a real conversation.
That's why I always encourage freelancers to use Fiverr's built-in Zoom feature as a tool to connect with potential clients and increase their conversion.

What is the Fiverr Zoom feature?

Because we know that a single well-run call can do more for your client relationships than a dozen inbox messages ever could, Fiverr offers free, built-in Zoom calls so you can connect with clients face-to-face without ever leaving the platform. All sellers can use it once an order has been placed, and certain eligible sellers can even use it directly from the Inbox before an order exists. If you’re able to, I highly encourage you to use this feature during the preorder phase whenever it makes sense.

The case for getting on a call

I know hopping on a video call with someone you've never met can feel a little intimidating. What do I say? What if it gets awkward? What if I freeze up? Those are completely normal thoughts, and I hear them all the time.
But here's what I want you to hold onto: the moment you show up on that call, you've already done something most sellers won't. That willingness to show up as a real person, and connect genuinely with clients is exactly what builds trust. And in that pre-order window when a client is still deciding who to hire, trust is everything. It’s what turns a curious browser into someone who's excited to work with you specifically.
Beyond that, a Zoom call helps you:
  • Quickly figure out whether the project is actually a good fit for you
  • Close higher-value projects with more confidence on both sides
  • Avoid miscommunication

A few things to watch out for

Zoom can absolutely be a game-changer for your freelance business. But if you're not intentional about how you use it, it can also quietly eat up your time and energy. Here are the three biggest mistakes I see sellers make:
Skipping the brief. Before any call, ask the client to send a short written summary of their project covering the goal, timeline, budget, and key deliverables. This one step tells you whether the conversation is worth continuing. Since Fiverr caps pre-order calls at 30 minutes, this helps ensure you're not wasting precious call time on basics that could have been handled via message.
Saying yes to every call: Your time is one of your most valuable assets, and not every inquiry deserves a Zoom call. Some projects are straightforward and don't need a pre-order call, while others simply are not a good fit. If you're choosing to have a call, make sure the buyer is genuinely ready to move forward and not just shopping around. You also want to make sure the decision-maker will be in the room. The last thing you want is to have a great conversation only to hear, 'I'll have to run this by my partner.'
Try this: If a buyer says 'Let's jump on a call and I'll explain everything,' try responding with: 'I'd love to connect! Could you share a quick summary of your project first so I can come prepared and make the most of our time together?' Serious buyers will appreciate the structure. Unserious ones tend to quietly disappear.
Letting pre-order calls turn into a free strategy session. This one is easy to fall into, especially when a client is enthusiastic, and the conversation is flowing. But there's a real difference between a discovery call and a free consulting session, and it's important to know where that line is.
Your job on this call is to clarify their goals, define the scope, and confirm you're the right person for the job, not to solve their problem for free.

Running a call that actually converts

The biggest advice I give my sellers about going into a preorder Zoom call is to not think of it as a sales pitch. That’s where the pressure and anxiety may creep in. Instead, think of it more as a conversation between two people figuring out if they're a great match. When you go in with that mindset, everything feels easier and more natural.
Here's a simple flow that works really well:
  • Open with an agenda. Kick things off by letting the client know what you'll cover together: scope, timeline, and next steps. It sets a focused, professional tone from the start and helps both of you stay on track.
  • Let them talk. Give them room to walk you through the project in their own words. Ask what success looks like to them at the finish line. Listen carefully, but don't be afraid to gently steer the conversation back if it starts to get off topic.
  • Ask focused questions. Stick to what directly affects scope, pricing, or timeline. This call is about qualifying and aligning, not brainstorming. Save the creative exploration for once the order is placed.
  • Close with clear next steps. Never let a call end in ambiguity. Tell them exactly what happens next: will you send a custom offer, and when? Do you need anything from them first? A clear close keeps the momentum going and signals that you know how to run a project.
Pro tip: Right after the call, send a quick written recap in the Inbox summarizing what you discussed and agreed on. It keeps everyone on the same page, protects you if anything gets disputed later, and honestly, it makes a great impression.

Bottom line

Zoom is one of those tools that feels optional until you actually start using it. Then you wonder how you ever closed a project without it. The sellers who use it consistently tend to attract better clients, experience fewer cancellations, and build the kind of client relationships that keeps work coming in steadily.
I encourage you to try it on your next project. A simple, well-prepared conversation might just be the thing that changes how you freelance entirely.
