Here at Fiverr, we’re all about talent and creativity, and we know that these abilities don’t just start at 18. That’s why we’ve made it possible for minors who are under 18 but at least 13 to share their skills and participate on Fiverr. While doing so, we’re committed to making sure that they can use our platform safely, legally, and free from any exploitation or abuse.
So, whether you are a teen looking to get started or a parent supporting your child’s freelancing journey, here’s what you need to know to stay safe and compliant on Fiverr.
Understanding the Minor Policy
According to our Terms of Service, freelancers must be at least 18 years old or legally able to sign a contract to have a Fiverr account. However, users between the ages of 13 and 17 can use the platform if, and only if, they have the permission of a parent or guardian who is willing to own and manage the account. Users under 13 cannot use Fiverr. When it comes to minors providing services through adult-owned accounts, there are a few exceptions to keep in mind. In no circumstance can minors offer services like dance lessons, modeling, greeting cards/videos, or any “your message on” gigs. More broadly, any service that involves minors in a sexually suggestive, violent, or exploitative context is strictly prohibited.
Properly setting up minor accounts
To stay within policy, there are a few key things to get right when setting up an account for a minor.
- Account ownership: The account must be created and owned by the parent or legal guardian.
- ID Verification: The parent or legal guardian must complete the ID verification using their own government-issued ID. If an underage ID is submitted showing the user is between 13 and 17, the account will be automatically restricted until it can be reverified using a parent or legal guardian’s ID. Any IDs showing the user is under 13 will be blocked automatically.
- Taxes: Any tax information linked to the account must match the adult owner’s information, not the minor’s.
- Profile photo: The photo on the account should never feature a minor. Use a logo or a photo of the adult managing the account instead.
- Gig & profile description: Be clear and transparent with clients. Make sure minor accounts explicitly state that the services are being provided by a minor with the permission and oversight of their legal guardian.
When the minor turns 18
Once the freelancer turns 18, they can contact Customer Support to inquire about transferring the ownership of the existing account. From there, they will need to confirm account ownership and complete ID verification using their own valid ID. If and when approved, they can continue using Fiverr independently, without needing a parent or legal guardian tied to the account.
We are proud to create spaces for young creatives and entrepreneurs to find opportunities. In doing so, we’re just as committed to making sure that space is safe, responsible, and compliant for everyone involved.
