This isn’t an easy post for me to write. I’ve been a Fiverr freelancer for over 5 years, pouring countless hours, days, and nights into delivering high-quality work for my clients. I’ve built my reputation here from the ground up and trusted Fiverr to be a fair platform for both buyers and sellers.

But after my recent experience, I feel I have no choice but to leave this platform.

3–4 months working on a major app development project

. The client and I agreed the work would be delivered in stages. I delivered the iOS version as part of this stage, sent full documentation, provided video demonstrations, and even went above and beyond by creating an Android version which was 

The client acknowledged and tested the app multiple times. They confirmed their satisfaction repeatedly. Then, without warning, Fiverr canceled the entire order based on the client’s request after I had already delivered all the work.

The app wasn’t ready in April (I was never given an April deadline; delays came from repeated client revisions outside scope). 

The Android version was incomplete (again, this wasn’t part of the agreed order – I added it out of goodwill). 

This raises serious ethical questions:
 👉 Can a client take months of a freelancer’s work, use it, and then simply ask Fiverr to cancel the order and get their money back?
 👉 Where is the protection for freelancers who dedicate months of their lives to a project?
 👉 Why was my side of the story completely dismissed, even when I offered to provide all evidence, files, and documentation?

The response I received from Fiverr support was generic and dismissive. They told me to “not let this discourage me” and that cancelations “are sometimes the best course of action.” Best course of action for who? Certainly not for the freelancer who has worked tirelessly.

This isn’t just about losing one project. It’s about the realization that Fiverr doesn’t protect its sellers. One client’s words can apparently erase months of my hard work, reputation, and income.

So after 5 years of giving Fiverr my loyalty, I am stepping away. I can’t continue on a platform that doesn’t value the freelancers who make it what it is.

To my fellow freelancers:
 Be careful. Protect yourself. Make sure you fully understand how little protection we have here.

To Fiverr:
 You need to do better. This isn’t how you build trust with your community.
