Thank you, Lena, for your very clear message. I know that Fiverr does everything to ensure the complete safety of its community, and that scammers are always looking for new ways to trick people and bypass checks and security.
For your information, here’s what led me to think it wasn’t a scam:
- the request came directly from Fiverr’s DM system, i received as a normal message inside the Fiverr legit website.
- The buyer told me she needs my email because my account was not verified, that's how i received the scam link. Unfortunately it was my first order and I don’t know the procedure.
- The website link and layout was "acceptable," fiverr dot autodirect dot website. Also no matter what I clicked in the website, it redirected me to the real Fiverr site and every link led to the correct page.
- Not having being told to be careful, by the mean that in my mind it was almost impossible to being scammed when asking for a payment...
What raised my suspicions:
- at first the generic request, "I'll pay you first, then I'll tell you what to do."
- The urgency, repeated to the point of annoyance, but this is was also a double-edged sword because, not finding an immediate way to contact fiverr or verify if it was genuine, in panic I might have clicked and entered sensitive information to avoid the ban or suspension the scammer told me i could face.
- Lastly, the request for credit card details to receive a payment, that was a very big red flag for me.
Thank you so much for your support!
