  1. That's that thing, if you know it and if you think it's funny, that's perfectly fine!! I once saw this guy wearing a shirt that basically said "super s*x machine man" in Japanese, I asked him if knew what it said, and he replied "It means my girl friend is super lucky" with a smile. Hey, if you know and you're happy with it, that's cool! Trusting Google is so dangerous, because it can't tell the difference between certain things. If you try to translate "Mercury" in Google, you might get the planet Mercury or the element mercury, and they are both different kanjis in Japanese. You just need to be veeeeeeeeeeeery careful. 😅 If you ever feel like getting a tattoo in Japanese, please contact me first!! 🤣 Also, I've never heard of semla before but that looks awesome. More cream you say? The more the merrier! 😍
  2. So as translator, I get a lot of gigs asking for translations of phrases/quotes so they can get a tattoo. In Japanese. Look, there's nothing wrong with getting a tattoo in a foreign language, but I do have a hard time understanding this.. IF you have been to Japan, lived in Japan, understand the language and culture, or have some kind of an emotional connection with the country, fine, I get it. If you are an anime nerd, I get that too. I've had a lot of people contacting me because they wanted a famous quote of an anime character tattooed on their bodies. Having that said, there are people who just gets a tattoo in a foreign language "because it's kinda cool." Or they think it is. If you really, really, reaaaaaaally wanted a tattoo, sure, go ahead. BUT YOU GOT TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!!!!! Be sure to ask a native level person to check your tattoo. Also be sure you can TRUST THAT PERSON!!! Once you decide to get the tattoo, show your idea/design to that person!!!! Just the other day I was sent this photo of a tattoo. Yes, the tattoo had already been applied, so in a way it's too late (unless you decided to remove it or cover it). I looked at the photo, and the good news was, it WAS Japanese. It was correct. I...was able to read it. Somehow. The problem was, it looked like it was hand-written and it SUCKED. Pardon my language, but it SUCKED. BIG TIME. YES, I could still read it, but it took me 3 seconds because it looked so bad. If I took 10 shots of vodka and blindfolded myself, holding a crayon in my left hand (I'm right handed btw) and tried scribbling the letter while someone kept violently shaking my shoulders, IT WILL STILL LOOK BETTER THAN THE TATTOO. Guys, be careful. Seriously.
  3. I was away for 3 days or so and I think I got 90+ notifications. I try to ignore that number and just scan through the forum, trying to look for topics that look interesting. It seems like a lot of us are having this "one person liking every post I made in the past 14 months" experience. I wished they realized that reacting to posts don't do anything to increase orders. I guess it's all part of the "be active on forum and you'll get orders" illusion.
  4. Several years ago, I was watching a rerun episode of the Steve Harvey show, and there was a scene where Steve says "Yo mama is so old when the lord said Let there be light!! she was there to hit the switch." That is so far the ONLY yo-mama-joke that made me laugh out loud. Also if your mom was there to witness the creation of the world AND had the honors of flipping the very first light switch in the history of mankind, doesn't that make your mom super cool? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'd love to see more yo-mama jokes that will make me laugh as much as this one!
  5. I don't have any pickup lines, but I do remember one from this movie White Chicks. I think it went like the guy approaching the girl ( spoilers, it's actually a guy disguised as a girl...) and then saying "Excuse me, Santa must have come earlier this year because you're at the top of my Christmas list." And right away he's told to "take your 80's pick up line and jump out the building window." That scene made me laugh.
  6. QUOTE OF THE DAY!!! I wish we could put up a banner at the top of the forum telling people this. This, and "Being active on the forum won't help either" as well.
  7. Hmmm, what about this: I rescued a cat about 3 years ago, and he transformed from this hissing wild cat to this attention-seeking, belly-rub loving of a furball. He loves to sit on my lap, but when he slept he liked to curl up in this box. Yes, cats love boxes including mine. Eaaaaaarly this morning I felt something tickling my chin and when I opened my eyes, my cat's face was right there. I tried putting my cat in my blanket many times before, but he just didn't like it and always went out, going straight to his box. Clearly this morning he had different intentions, and he crawled right into my blanket and stayed there. GOD it was nice and warm. His snoring was a bit loud but heck, it was a new type of ASMR 🙂
  8. I admit, I have sent Christmas/ New Years messages to repeat clients a few times in the past. Again, repeat clients only, who has placed over 15 orders and are very likely to place an order again, and their last order had been placed in December. That made it easier for me to say hi to them rather than doing so months later.
  9. I don't think there's much going on in February. But sadly I believe my favorite restaurant will be closing this month, so I'll need to go there again soon. After that's done, I need to look for a new place! I really, really liked that restaurant so I think it will be hard to find a place that will be equally satisfying. Oh, you know what, I got this special discount ticket so I'll be using and will be getting a massage every weekend!! 😍
  10. Japan was going through quite a lot of problems because of the yen going down down dooooooooooown. Fortunately for me, I get paid in dollars so I was quite happy when I converted them to yen. That was a while ago though, I think things are slowly going back to normal...but oh wait, and then it went up again...then down. And up and down, repeat. Who knows what it will be like tomorrow! 😅
  11. You know whaaaaaat, now that you've mentioned....I'm sure I've seen that mysterious phenomenon happen every now and then. If I ever run into problems I tend to come to the forum and ask if others are going through the same thing, but I don't think I've mentioned it here. I'm guessing that I saw the $0.01, maybe went "Huh?" in my head for a few seconds, followed by an "Oh well, Fiverr gets buggy every now and then, I'm sure it's gone by tomorrow" and that's usually the case. I'm looking forward to seeing what Detective Mooch AKA the King will write though!! 😄
  12. First I see the title, then read the first post, got REALLY confused, had the same question as @jonbaas did, then dear @maitasun answered the question for me (thank you), and the rest of the post was quite entertaining to read. Also I gotta say, knowing that Vickie has joined Fiverr rather recently and yet she is doing very well as a relatively new seller, it really shows that new sellers can get orders too. You just need to know what you can do, and also understand how business works, and what "professionalism" means! I'm glad you have a great customer too 😄
  13. Woah, seriously? Just last night while I was sipping wine, I suddenly kinda felt like listening to Elton John, and I listened to Sad Songs Says so Much, and Sacrifice. Now the song is replaying in my head again and it ain't going anywhere for a while. It's OK, I like the song. It's better than "Let it gooooooooo" looping in your head forever. Alright, I need to go get my coffee. It's a new month, so I'm sure Starbucks has a new set of cake/scones/munchies ready! 😄 Happy February to you all, and long live the King and the council members. Me? Nah, I'm just the court jester. I make people laugh by juggling my cats.

    Eat Zee Bugs

Years ago a Korean coworker of mine went back home for vacation and came back with a can of....I think it was silk worm pupa or something along that line. She had the can in the break room so people can eat it but nobody tried it, except for me. It had no taste, it was liked a boiled macaroni. According to her, it's a rich course of protein and is good for your skin. I don't mind eating bugs that much as long as it doesn't have its original shape/form.

    Last breath

Someone else said it up there, but don't you think you're being too dramatic? I mean, "last breath??" I'm guessing that if you have such experiences, you should know who your target audience is. I am no expert in marketing, but have you tried that? ( and I don't mean spamming/posting in social media)
  16. If you have actually violated the terms of service, there is a slim chance you will get your account back. You should have read the rules carefully.
  17. I've seen people leave Fiverr for different reasons, most of them made a lot of sense but I'm not sure if I can say the same for you. Just give it another day, I understand that not getting what you were expecting is frustrating, but Fiverr is an international platform. Japan is several hours ahead of other countries, I end up waiting an extra day in many cases when I get payment from foreign clients even though "technically" it is the payment day in Japan.
  18. I guess somewhere along the lines of 1. Trying to stand out when there are thousands of other competitors. 2. Having a backup plan when you face a dry-up period. I'm going through one right now, things are going surprisingly slow for the past few weeks. Not worried though, I guess I'll enjoy this quiet time while I can. THIS. THIS!!! I went to get a back/shoulder massage the other day and the massage therapist told me my shoulders were like rocks. I'm going back to that place again this weekend!!
  19. I saw an almost 2-hour-long Detective Columbo episode, directed by then 24-year-old Steven Spielberg... Does that count as a movie? I really got into Columbo when I was maybe 9 or so, I saw the entire series in English and when I came back to Japan I remember reading the entire series in Japanese at the school library! If it has to be a movie-movie, I think the last one I saw was the Hollywood version of the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. LOVE the bank scene!!
  20. Congrats!! I know I said this before, but I'm still amazed with how you keep track of THAT many orders! I've been on Fiverr for over 10 years but if I had more than 10 active orders I'd have smoke coming out of my ears and nose. Keep it up, you'll be a TRS very soon I'm sure 😄 😄
  21. I like eggs. I love them in fact. I eat them several times a week. I'm sure I'll continue eating them. I love the Japanese style tamagoyaki and omlette rice way too much. Just saying.
  22. Well after @vickiespencer's success with the brief, I actually clicked/checked the message I received this morning. I thought maybe, juuuuuuuuust maybe someone is looking for a Japanese translator... but the brief was about someone looking for a Spanish translator. Darn in, I just wasted 2 seconds of my precious time!
  23. Congrats!! Huh, maybe I should actually pay attention to my next brief! 😁
  24. So far it's doing nothing for me, I think I get a good number of messages but I delete them without even checking the contents. I offer translation (Japanese/English) and all the briefs I receive are languages I don't understand. I guess the Fiverr system just focused on the "translation" part and not the actual languages. I DO check the briefs eeeeeevery now and then just for the heck of it, but nope, none of them were for me so far. It's oddly impressive though, how wrong they are each time!!😅
