  1. Thanks for sharing your important tips.

You didn’t read them. She literally said not to thank her. You think posting on the forums “thank you” makes you look good, or brings you orders, but showing that you can’t even read (which is what you did here) has the opposite effect. Now you look like a meksell that will never go anywhere, congratulations.

Now you look like a meksell that will never go anywhere, congratulations.

I looked up meksel and came across this historical and informative nugget from the forum history

Lately, the forum is full of the same topics on how to get sales, which are getting old and boring. Over the time some of the regular forum members invented a new word for those people, MEK-SEL Mek-Sel (noun) - a new person that joined Fiverr, doesn’t have the necessary skills, his or her English sucks, they tend to steal other people’s work, and yet somehow they bitch about not getting sales. I know that some of you guys are still beginners and that the concept freelancing is a whole new wor…

And I was also reminded of one of frank’s post to be kind. By tomorrow @miiila 's post will be flooded by more thank yous and heartmojis. We cannot end up calling out everyone…

I gave your post a ❤️ even though you thought better and hid it

I received a notification and said hey don’t encourage me lol! ❤️

After I typed, @miiila had included an edit to keep the post on track 😅

Even today I was thinking about ordering from a seller here for something I really want to get done and I know they will deliver it perfectly to my liking. But afraid to send an enquiry

    Why not?

I once ordered from another seller who had worked with me on a manual for a buyer. I had checked his work and liked it. Also, there are so many sellers outsourcing their work/part of it. For example, I helped a screencast video developer develop a storyboard.

Spamming is what’s being discouraged in the post!

Especially when Forum members who actually give thoughtful comments and help do not get “Regular” status

I just noticed your ID is not associated with a Regular badge 🤯

I read threads as far back as 2017 and benefit from your responses on them.

  2. Etiquette 101, couldn’t agree more. I have experienced some sort of micro-aggression here; when a buyer reaches out to me and then gets surprised and voices their surprise over the fact that I write and speak good English despite the fact that am an African in Africa.

I think it is courteous to do some bit of research before you speak with someone, better yet check their profile before you reach out. If someone thinks you are ignorant, they will not put much effort in your work because they know that you are not keen to details or they may simply not care to give you the best of their services based on how they have perceived you. As you said, this is business

That happens a lot with me as well.

Once during a zoom (audio), a client (while demoing their software) pointed it out and asked me where my schooling was from, and how old I was!

It was surprising because I was from DOWN THERE… (downthereistan lol)

    what about a client called:

    Legit question!

Maybe ask them the pronunciation and ask them whether there is an alternate initial they would prefer (maybe)

or… just ignore the elephant in the room, avoid calling the name and sincerely hope there is no need!

Okay, someone please share the right way.

  3. “Name, will you please respond”

You could have easily left “name” out and say something like “Can you respond, please?”

    In retrospect, yes.

My emotional side took over on the fourth day with no response.

This is the client who messaged after a month of delivery and acceptance stating, “Why haven’t you shared the manual yet?”

  4. On a side note,

I had/have a client who is “originally” Asian and the one instance I exasperatedly referred to their first name with
    “Name, will you please respond”

Was met with, “It was disrespectful”

I informed them that was far from my intention but seriously, you are singlehandedly destroying my project timelines 😑

Then I had a senior client from India who had ordered unannounced, I referred to her as ma’am (the one time I did) because calling her with her first name didn’t feel right due to culture.

  5. Don’t you feel it’s a bit hypocritical when some big company, say paypal, sends you something like “Dear user, unfortunately we had to restrict your account due to…”

    LOL!

    Dear Bintzia

We have received your application. Unfortunately, you are not a right fit for our company. Your application seems a bit… off.

    Don’t apply again.

    Regards,

On another note, the Asian dear is just nails-on-board 😑

    Sure dear.

    Okay dear.

    Feeeel that???

A dear in a salutation is acceptable but even that is not a part of contemporary communication.

  6. I think sir and Madam/Mam is ok. But don’t be offended if you hear “Dear” from anyone of Asia. This is not that person problem, this is Asian education and professional culture problem. Here mostly “Boss” type people love to hear “dear sir” or something like that. If you forget to write dear starting of the letter/application whom you writing they count it as disrespectful. For pandemic most of the people sifted from off line job to online job. It will take time to learn them about international professional manners/curtesy.

    Not. At. All.

    Asians are equally annoyed.

The salutation is archaic and the dear that is being referred to is “I will do this for you dear”

It is definitely not a part of old English.
