  1. I believe I have cracked the code on Fiverr's 180 degree reversal of AI acceptance. Kick the tires on this.

Fiverr keeps talking about how AI will "empower" its seller community.

Actually, they are not wrong in theory, just that they found a way to empower the wrong group of sellers. For years we have lamented the fact that that Fiverr allowed completely untalented people who could not string 2 sentences together in English to pose as skilled sellers, only to disappoint the buyers on delivery. It was so prevalent that several places on the globe became famous for this, largely due to the lack of any barrier to entry. If you had a cell phone and the power was on in your village at the moment, you could join Fiverr and claim to be anything in the world, unchallenged, and they did.

Through the years we asked for barriers to entry such as pay wall, skills verification, location and English proficiency verification, but this was all ignored while the great sweat shop ground away 24/7.

Then the moment of singularity, the universal joke was played on all of us, when Fiverr decided that instead of cleaning the place up and ridding the platform of the scammers, spammers and impostors, they realized that by reversing their momentary ban on AI, they could essentially "empower" the world to pose as anything with far greater effect.

Essentially, Fiverr decided to assist the grift. They are actually providing instruction as to how to game their own system, forming an army of mediocre sellers that they value far more than a small cadre of professionals with actual talents and skills.

So yes, there are 8 billion photoshop experts in the world, 8 billion VO artists and 8 billion pro video editors, all on Fiber for just $5. As long as they get $1 of each sale, then what's the problem with playing a little "make believe." Go ahead chat with someone using Google translate who claims to be in Chicago, and get an AI generated, twelve fingered portrait of yourself.

It's good for biz, one dollar at a time.

Ok, so today I'm not gonna rant about being forcibly empowered by AI or about Fiverr (ok, a bit about Fiverr).

As we say in Norway, I have a hen to pluck (our way of saying bone to pick, for some strange Norwegian reason) and today, my hen is logins.

So here I was, going about my workday. I headed down to my studio to record a voiceover, sat down, and booted up my Surface. Then I realized that I hadn't uploaded the script to OneDrive, meaning I had to download it from Fiverr.

After typing in my paranoidly long and difficult password manager password that I use so I don't have to remember passwords, I hit the Fiverr login and get prompted for two-step verification, because, clearly, logging in yesterday from the exact same device and browser was just a rehearsal. Meh.

Left my phone upstairs, didn't I? So I decided to get a one-time code via email. See where this is going?

So I go to Outlook, only to be prompted for two-step verification there, too. This time, I actually have no choice: I have to get up and find my phone to enter the two numbers on the Surface screen into a box in the Outlook app, even though I'm logging into Microsoft services daily from this network (and I used Outlook on my Surface in the same freakin' browser yesterday!).

But okay. I get my phone, input the darn numbers, only to be told I'm too late, and have to try again. I do, and I finally get into my inbox after 10 minutes back and forth with this nonsense.

I copy the one-time code from Fiverr, and finally get in to download the script. I try to open the script, but for some reason, the buyer put it in an Excel file. Why, you ask? Because clearly, someone out there hates me, and now I'm being prompted to log in to OneDrive so I can open the file in an app I've installed locally with an account I just used on the same device to get the one-time code for Fiverr. Microsoft truly thrives on user torment.

People talk about how going password-free, using a password manager, and having two-step verification will make us safer (and it's probably true). But this is getting to the point of it qualifying for security through obscurity.

And all that, just to read a 7-second script.

  3. Essentially yes.

The definition of revisions and the number of them will vary from one seller to the next. It is up to you to select a seller that clearly explains how many revisions and the extent of revisions they include in the offer prior to ordering from them. If a seller does not have this clearly defined in their FAQ section, I would suggest asking them, or avoiding them and proceeding to someone who does.

Also, "quality" is subjective, so you cannot say, "This is poor quality, so I want a revision."  You need to be more specific, and yes, it would fall on you to tell the seller what you want changed. If you get a delivery and don't like it, then you fall back on your revisions until they are exhausted. Then if you want further revisions after that, your seller should charge you for each one. The cost of additional revisions should also be clearly defined if your seller is legit and professional.

I primarily jumped into the world of voice-over specifically after being directed to do so in prayer. I'd never heard of this industry before or contemplated running a business before hearing the words "Voice Over" loud and clear when praying about my next career move about 6 years ago. Strange reason to many I am sure, but I've learned over many long years after asking many questions that I can trust God's direction on this sort of thing. It's been a wild ride.

Gee whiz, hard act to follow. Makes my "why" seem somehow less altruistic:

Movie gif. Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire shouts the catchphrase into his phone. Text, "Show me the money!!!"

The woman in the video went into it better. Didn't she talk about different number systems etc. where it could be different results?

Yes, but that is quite the point. Her point is that if you change the definition of the values in math, then you can arrive at whatever result you wish. So, if we agree that from here on, there is no such thing as "3" and whenever you see a 3, you are to substitute a 2, then yes this silliness works, but it could also lead to Fiverr paying you in cat treats instead of money, calculated by actual math.  Point is that we can play silly mental games all day long, but do you really want Boeing designing aircraft with each engineer using a different definition of a 7 than others?

It is just nonsense parlor games.

Well 1) it says so on my gig that that's the price

So please help me understand how you can simultaneously argue that:

    A. Math is a fixed thing with solid enough values to correctly justify not delivering what I perceive as 8 seconds, despite the fact that it is 45 minutes.

    B. Math is only real when you want it to be, as long as you do something as unreasonable as changing the definition of what a 7 is?

Those are the 2 choices, unless you perceive that there is a third one.

What happens if you store a number in a byte (which can only store 0 to 255) and it's already holding the value 250 and you add 10 to it? It would overflow/wrap around and become 4. So in that case 250+10 would become 4.

If you store aa number in just 1 binary digit - bit (0 to 1) and it's already set to 1, then adding 1 to it again would make it 0 (since it would overflow). 1+1=0.

I don't think that arguing this in terms of computer technology is the most productive way to proceed for 2 reasons, first I am not able to quantify if what you stated is 100% accurate since it is not my field, and further, computers and in particular AI exists in a place where the laws of physics don't necessarily apply if they are inconvenient in supporting a claim.  So let's please attack this in real world terms, because in a simulation, everything is possible, no matter how impossible.

On your composting & visual effects gig, it states that you will provide up to 8 seconds of video for $15. What if I ordered and paid $15, and provided 45 minutes of video because I percieve 8 seconds differently from you. Will you honor that, or would reason suddenly make an appearance?

Or Fiverr pays you $85 for what should have been $100. Upon asking CS, they respond, "the math works for us in the way which we define a dollar."  You happy with that?  Honestly?

This is what perplexity.ai says about the other cases:

The youtube vid referenced by the perplexity.ai link:

Her entire premise is that 2+2 can equal 5, and all you have to do is change the definition of either "2"or "plus."  It is nonsense.

For example, I tell you that I can lift an airplane. As long as we mentally change the word airplane to mean kitten, yes that works, but it is amongst the laziest thinking possible.

Because laws supersede terms and conditions. Terms and conditions cannot be illegal. Companies can't take shelter under terms and conditions that are illegal. Questionable practices will have to be dealt with accordingly. Of course laws in my country are more consumer oriented, doesn't mean it would be the same elsewhere but if one does nothing, the outcome would be... Nothing..

What is illegal about, "we charge 20% of all revenues"?  And what is the motivation to agree to that, then complain about it? More than likely not bothering to understand what they were agreeing to.

Feel free to sue them. You might find enough people on the forum to join you.

How do you sue someone for doing exactly what you agreed to when signing up for the service? One sues for breach of contract, but in this instance, Fiverr is doing exactly what they say they will do and the OP agreed to it.  Plus, if someone is complaining about a few dollars missing from a tip, they are most likely not able to hire the attorneys needed to sue a company worth hundreds of millions.

I could argue against that all day long. I do not agree with the commission on tips, at all.

But pretending it is a surprise is a very different matter.

But you know what would happen if it were not there. Agree, the point is that someone gets outraged when they get their first paycheck from McDonald's at the age of 15, and because they grew up in a bubble, become outraged after receiving $85 after taxes instead of $100. Heads explode when they learn that a paycheck is not the same as a $20 in the birthday card from Grandma.  Fun watching the chicks hatch though.

How could I not now that fiverr steals 20 % of your tips ? This is a foul practice that should be brought to the front and loudly put to fiver for remedy and compensation for this theft. We pay 20% of our orders to fivver for the privilege to use this platform ...tips are given for exemplary service.  Yet fiverr takes 20 of your tips ..that's unreal . For what .what did fiver do to earn any percent of a tip.? Any one else feel that this should stop?

This is the best argument to make if you want to demonstrate that you paid no attention to how Fiverr works and simply skipped the actual words that adults are supposed to read and comprehend.

This has been asked by noobs hundreds of times and answered every time. Why not learn why this is not only necessary, but also something that was disclosed in the TOS, which you apparently did not read.
