  1. I had a super rude buyer no long ago who gave me zero information about what he expected me to do and (As it turned out), surprise surprise, he wanted something done that I DIDN’T OFFER IN MY GIG. So I did the work as per my gig, delivered and he came back basically berating me. This guy was of a nationality that is known for being rude and blunt and when i was trying to be friendly and say my dad was of the same background and what part of said country did he come from he just shut me down and was like “If your father is from there you should know some of the language” to which he then wrote somethign to the effect of “don’t take me for some stupid fool”. I cancelled the order of my own accord as I wasn’t going to work with him at all and basically said you wanted something i dont offer in my gig- where do i say what you want?? Anyways, it was for writing an online dating profile for people - I dearly wanted to tell him that if he speaks to everyone the way he speaks to me, it’s no surprise he’s 40, single and paying people to jazz up his online dating profiles.
  2. It doesn’t matter if people don’t have much time for googling things. Selling copyrighted intellectual property is selling copyrighted intellectual property which is against the law internationally and can get you in serious trouble. I personally would be livid if someone tried selling stuff I’d written (Especially ebooks!) and tried to pass it off as something they did on their own merit. If you want to continue selling ebooks I highly recommend writing them yourself or paying a ghostwriter to do so.
  3. That level of work for $5?? Run hard and fast in the other direction!
  4. I had absolutely fantastic months in January and February but in March the sales dipped and now I think I’ve had maybe 3 sales in the last month… yikes.
  5. Someone? Forum is full of topics where people complain about it (and, apparently, don’t search before creating a topic of their own). 🙂 haha I only say I’m glad someone mentioned this as I rarely come to the forums anymore and I thought it was just me. I haven’t looked back to see if there was a post about it before and I didn’t bother posting one as I figured I’d just get told to contact CS 😛 but thanks for mentioning they’re working on it - I hadn’t gotten a message back from support yet so I was wondering what was going on! 🙂
  6. Oh I’m glad someone mentioned this. It happened to me too and I was so confused as my last two orders were rated five stars so I was completely in the dark and raised it as a ticket to Customer Support. Glad to hear it looks like a common bug. Thanks forum! 🙂
  7. The seller may have forgotten to attach the product. Try messaging them first to remind them that you haven’t received the finished product. I’m a seller and I’ve totally forgotten to attach it before and then marked it complete. It happens. If they just are trying to scam you though and you try to remind them a couple times and still nothing try contacting fiverr customer support. 🙂 Hope this helps.
  8. I feel the same way. As a professional writer who has written for fun literally since childhood I get really annoyed when people are like “Oh you write? I can do that.” Yeah? Present it. Then I give them a chance and I’m like “no, no, no, no. I’m going to have to fix this now. Nobody writes like this.” I’m not a snot either who thinks that they have to write a certain way or anything but you can tell when someone is good and when someone really isn’t (or is trying too hard and it comes off really phoney!)
  9. I also have gotten the message being all “Hey - I love your gigs, we should be partners.” Or “Hey. U nid help me? U send me wurk n I do 4 u.”…bearing in mind I’m a native English content writer I was like ummmm… i’ll pass thanks.
  10. Never had anything too out of the ordinary but I once had a couple different buyers hit on me. Like, dude. It’s Fiverr. Not Plenty Of Fish.
  11. I use vacation mode at least once a month when I have tons of work on (or whenever I actually need a break) and it sometimes takes a week or so but I get people coming back and requesting work. Heck, I sometimes (like now) get queries from clients asking about work before I’m back so we just organise and set it up so that when I’m back I start their project! 🙂
  12. I use the vacation feature once a month just to take some time off as fiverr isn’t my only source of work either and it sometimes takes a day or two to get another order after i “come back” from vacation, so don’t worry about it too much. Try Buyers request or promoting on social media. I find that it takes 3-4 days, sometimes a bit more to get orders after “vacation”
  13. I was just about to mention the “I need mek sells.”
  14. Oh jeez. My two are the original IT and Arachophobia!
  15. It could be that the buyer is just busy and stepped away from his computer and replies to you later. It happens a lot where you think they will reply immediately but sometimes a day goes by. Showing samples to buyers is perfectly fine but make yourself a strict rule like “only one sample per buyer” because sometimes buyers can be shady and just keep asking for samples which they then take and use for their own reasons and never pay you. Also if a buyer asks you to do a piece of work as a sample for free, decline politely and advise them that you’d need to be paid a little something for your time, even if it’s only $5 to mock up the sample otherwise they could do the same thing - get a piece of work for nothing and never intend to purchase from you. It just helps keep you safe. I hope this helps 🙂
  16. I’ve had this too. “Hey can you write my dissertation in thermodynamic science” or WHATEVER and I’m like “wtf?? No!” a) if you can’t do the work, don’t go to university b) the last thing you want for a huge essay in a specialist field is a writer who has NO knowledge of the topic. Wtf is the point? Just do it yourself! Jeez. People, eh?
  17. Hahaha I had a guy the other day (more like a week and a half, two weeks ago) who messaged me out of the blue saying he needed a ghostwriter for a novel of like 60,000 words. Okay… firstly he started with “Hi Dear” (that’s an immediate NOOOOOOOOPE in my books!!) and then he said he wanted me to write the first 2 chapters for free as a test and that’d I’d be competing against ten others for the “opportunity” to write his whole book. I had a good chuckle about that and said no and I was happy to provide a sample of previous work in another genre but I was NOT giving him a free sample in his work because what was stopping him going from person to person and saying “you write 1-2. You write 3-4” and so on until the project is finished. I’d like to read that book though. It would read like someone who had too much to drink and thought “I’ll write a novel in one night!” with so many different styles and stuff. Hahahahah. I told him I wasn’t interested. He got butthurt. I just laughed… and laughed… and laughed. PS: I know some of you regular forum folk have probably seen this story before - just a hilarious similar story to Lucycodex’s! 😛
  18. Those drive me nuts and just clog up the forum, yet the answer is always the same! Sigh. lol.
  19. The overseas issue shouldn’t necessarily be a problem - I am frequently 10+ hours away from some of my buyers and we communicate effectively just through messaging. Sure I might get a message while I’m asleep, but I address it as soon as I can. Being generalist and claiming that freelancers all lie is a very unfair statement to make. I echo everyone’s sentiment here in saying that the buyers request area can be very dodgy and is not the ideal place to go hunting for something as intricate and advanced as web design. I agree that you should look through top rated or level two sellers and choose from there. Sure you may pay more, but in the freelancing world that’s how it works. As someone cleverly said on the forum awhile ago, I can’t remember who it was now but “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.”
  20. Fantastic post. I totally agree. Another tip would be to not bring your resolved issue into other irrelevant conversations. Ie: posting your own topic about a bad buyer, getting replies and help and then bringing your same problem about the bad buyer into other threads of the similar topics looking for help again, perhaps because you didn’t like the advice you received on your own thread. On the topic of spam too, it’s getting a bit much seeing the same “please help me get my first order” or “I need sales” topics everywhere in the forum. I know I’m not the only one who thinks so! haha 😛 Thanks again catwriter!
  21. And who would have thought that if we saved these and our Star Wars figurines, we’d all be millionaires by 2017? Goddam parents and their need to make space under the bed for new Christmas presents. Don’t forget original releases of Disney VHS tapes!!
  22. I miss the days where not everyone was on social media and to hang out you actually had to phone someone. I mean, I’m guilty of the whole “why the eff are calling me?? Text me bud!” but there was something nice and simple before smartphones and internet in every home. I too am like offline helpers and am old enough (in my 30s) to remember the days when we had walkmans (walkmen?) walkie talkies, and actually went outside to play. I remember when the N64 came out the graphics blew everyone away and now they’re subpar haha! I also remember how discmen (discmans?) used to be like $200 for a good one so you stuck with your crummy walkman till discman went down in price. Or getting blank tapes from the shop to record your favourite songs off the radio cuz there sure wasn’t any Napster, Limewire or Frostwire or Pirate Bay or whatever haha. Ah, the good old days lol. But, without the internet I never would have met my husband… so, well, viva internet! 😛
