Creating a document for a Commercial License

Hi!

I’ve been seeing requests lately from buyers who want a document when they purchase a commercial license. This is a fantastic idea and I think it would be great if we can all pitch in our ideas to what should go into one. I have a voice over background and have been doing freelance for several years before getting onto Fiverr, so my input will reflect that.

Here’s my initial thoughts:

Length of rights to use the work. (Usually a year is standard)

What it’s used for. (TV/Radio/Web) - TV is higher scale work when compared to Web

And actually, I think those are the two main things. Maybe other things need to be considered for other types of gigs, what do you think?

This will be a fantastic way to ensure confidence on both sides of the deal. The buyer will know exactly what the terms are, and the seller will have a the assurance that they will not be taken advantage of. 🙂

Well, it doesn’t have to have all that personal info. I think simply your signature at the bottom should be enough. And if for some reason the document needs to be called up in the future, you have Fiverr conversations and transactions saved to back it up.

Reply to @talethia: I agree with you that documentation would matter a lot to enforce a license or copyright. My only point is that it is going to be difficult to come up with a document that would really hold up in a legal situation. I would encourage you to send your ideas to Fiverr via Customer Support or post your ideas in the Suggestion Box forums.
