jasmine313
I hope someone will be able to help me with this question. I applied to a request for someone to write a romance short story and they want to see a copy of a romance story that I written. The only examples that I have are romance stories that I’ve written for other people that they requested that they own the rights to. Since I am not selling the material and if I tell the person that I wrote it for someone else so I do not own the rights to it, can I send it to them or am I not allowed to do it?Sorry if this is a stupid question.Thank you. fonthaunt
I would not show a sample of a story you wrote for another buyer unless you have their permission. That is a double-problem since the buyer owns the rights and you’d be revealing that someone else bought a ghostwritten text from you.I would write a 1 page sample story that you don’t ever sell to anyone, watermark it as a sample and put your business name and copyright symbol on it. If you have repeated requests for fiction and/or romance you can use it over and over again.
willpower_hk
Technically not. That’s how the name “ghostwriter” originates. You have already transferred full copyrights of the writing to your client, so you cannot claim copyright to it or claim you’re the author. Just my two cents.
