-“I don’t have time for all that!
Then you shouldn’t waste your already limited time, rudely demanding modifications on a closed order”…

I feel like this is a bit arrogant. Some buyers (like me) are new to Fiverr and don’t know all the in’s and out’s of using it. I work off my iPhone since I run multiple businesses and honestly? I spent 2 hours reading how to use Fiverr, 2 days trying to pick a good seller, and 2 days communicating what my expectations are with examples. Once an order is placed, I just want results. I don’t want to waste another day looking for how to “correctly” ask for modifications etc. I just had a bad experience where I purchased a $55 graphic gig and after multiple time delays the seller sent me a basic clip art graphic to which he added stickers. I was so shocked that I didn’t even see the “Request modification” button. I replied to him, saying Im disappointed and wanted a more professional graphic or a refund but didn’t hit “request modification”. The seller proceeded to procrastinate and buy time until the 15 day limit was reached, but I didn’t realize at the time my order would show as “completed”. I think that was his plan, was to take my money and run. Thank goodness I emailed customer service as I was worried my order showed as completed when it wasn’t, and ultimately I got a cancel and refund this morning.

Bottom line…I already spent days analyzing Fiverr out just to figure out how to place my first few orders. Give the buyers a break…we don’t spend all day on Fiverrr like you sellers. No need to be impatient, I am a seller on Etsy and I get how irritating customers can be, BUT try to appreciate as without buyers you won’t have an income

Reply to @vonnyrobertson: I think that what you’re describing isn’t really what OP was describing. It is true that there are fraudulent sellers everywhere who will try to do that- with legitimate ones, you shouldn’t delay in requesting a modification(in fact, outside of fiverr, most designers’ contracts have a limit on the time between payment and modification after the fact to speed things up and avoid having to deal with fraudulent buyers). Fraudulent sellers/buyers should be dealt with via customer service, but it’s good that you took the initiative to get things sorted even though you got a bad seller.

From an American or other first-world designer, $55 will probably get you about two to three hours’ work with no plagiarism. I think that knowing what to expect is also important for both buyers and sellers, so it’s good to do a bit of research on stuff like typical rates and how services work, although it’s not always immediately obvious. I hope you have better luck in the future.

jdadvertising said: Listen, YOU paid for a service, it is YOUR RIGHT to utilize the system properly when you desire something modified.

Just to add to this for Buyers who don't know: Requesting Modifications for a delivered order, are not be done based on personal taste. This is Fiverr's policy. While a Buyer have 'the right' to utilize the system I importance of understand the misuse of the feature is a violating this policy.

The request for modification feature is only to be used if what's delivered is clearly not what is advertised (their Gig says they take pictures of an orange, and you get an apple delivered to you).

If there are issues regarding what is delivered to you based on personal taste, Buyers are prompted by this same address this to their seller and communicate their concerns to them.

From Fiverr's Terms of Service: "Buyers may use the "Request Modifications" feature located on the Order page while an order is marked as Delivered if the delivered materials do not match the seller's description on their Gig page or the requirements sent to the seller at the beginning of the order process."

"Users may receive a warning to their account for violations of our Terms of Service or any user misconduct reported to our Trust and Safety team. Warnings do not limit account activity, but can lead to your account becoming permanently disabled based on the severity of the violation."

I agree that it's best to encourage proper use of the system and educate Buyers proper use of the system as Fiverr directs. When it comes to issues related to the order (personal taste) communication as recommended by Fiverr. This is what the order message system is for and why it's still active once an order is delivered till it's marked as delivered. Communicate is key to a successful order. Great tips! :)

Just to be clear. The buyer is only supposed to request modification if the order is something other than advertised?

What about in a case where the general order is okay, but needs some minor modifications to make the product legible, and the buyer has come to think that the seller may be a bit on the dodgy side , and if the accept button is clicked, any further correspondence about mods will be ignored.

I personally am not a big fan of the Modification Button, it is far to open to abuse. I have been selling digital downloads for 15 years now long before Fiverr started and it was standard practice not to modify after final proof has been sent, it’s the same with printers the onus was on the buyer providing the correct information to the seller beforehand, a printer would charge a fee for re run, a voiceover artist the same or graphic designer. I personally would like to see modifications as part of the extras and some kind of tick box for buyers to check that all information is correct before ordering.

I love Fiverr it’s a fantastic platform for all of us and I love being part of such a cool community 🙂

I understand that completely. It does have the potential to be abuse. I am new to Fiverr as a Buyer so am not sure. But is there any other way to get proofs for approval before getting the order delivery.

For example I requested a logo. Didn’t really have any particular requirements except it have the business name(the business spans multiple industries). However, when the order was delivered, there was a part of the graphic that overlapped on the business name and hid or partially hid some of the letters. I liked the design but felt that the letters should be legible and that should be basic. Didn’t think I should have to write in the instructions- “please ensure that all of the company name is visible/legible”, lol. So I clicked the request modification button. Not angry with the designer, just want a small mod.

If I had been sent a proof then I could have said oh the letters aren’t all visible and I don’t like that, can you change it, then things would be different.

So for future reference, can I as a buyer request drafts/proofs before the final and does Fiverr have facilities for that?

OK I’m going to try my best and answer your questions/concerns as best as I can.

With regard to the modification request feature, only buyers can request it.

When you’re on the profile of a seller, read through the gig description thoroughly. As some offer a certain amount of modification requests.

There are no systems in place for “proofs” or “drafts” when the designer submits the work to you, you then suggest the modifications necessary to making it what you would be happy with. However, if you can touch on all the issues with your first request, that would be great. Rather than finding new issues everytime the designer submits work to you. Because i have dealt with that so many times in the past, some of my gigs i only offer One (1) modification. This is why as a buyer it is important you read through the gig descriptions properly or even message your desired designer before hand.

Also, please do not ask designers for drafts via the inbox area. Order the gig (after speaking to them) and then use the modifications to edit the delivered artwork to your liking. If the project just isn’t going the way you’d like, you can mutually cancel the order with the said seller.

Hope that helps you. If you have further questions feel free to PM so we dont spam up people’s notifications.

Tschüss!

Fiverr’s Order Cancellation Policy:

“Order cancellations, similar to Requesting Revisions for your delivered order, will not be done based on personal taste. Buyers are given the option to rate their experience with the seller and share their experience in a feedback review.”

Fiverr’s Policy on Revisions:

"When an Order is Rejected, the Buyer requires the Seller to revise the Delivery to fit the Buyer’s requirements. The Seller is prompted to Deliver again and both users are encouraged to communicate in the order page to sort out any issues with the Delivery. The Seller is not timed on Delivering their revisions.

A Buyer will see a message to indicate that revisions were requested to the Seller on their progress bar.

A Seller will see an Orange ribbon on their order page to prompt them to Deliver again."

Basically you can’t reject a delivery on personal taste but if the Sellers delivers work that wasn’t agreed upon (ie. you asked for a blue flower image in the Order Requirements and the Seller delivered a yellow flower…) it’s acceptable to reject the order. Rejecting the order simply because you don’t like the shade of blue the flower is, isn’t a acceptable reason to reject the order.

This would be were Seller’s revision policies and/or directing the Buyer to purchase a revision would fall into play. When it doubt always refer to Fiverr’s policies!

This is also an important lesson in why it’s important to be as detailed as possible when it comes to communicating what you’re looking for an order (especially when it comes to visuals/art/logos/etc.) and avoid any use of adjectives. Providing example images and talking things over before the Seller completes the order is what is truly necessary.

Fiverr CS will agree with this in the same aspect when it comes to cancelling an order. They won’t cancel and order for a Buyer if the Buyer didn’t provide clear specs and/or provided new specs once the order has been delivered.
