How do you handle requests for discounts?

Hello Everyone,

I normally don’t give discounts but I constantly get people requesting these to the point it becomes harassment. I know it’s not good practice to block them out but I just don’t know how to handle them any other way. Are there any suggestions?

Thank you

Farida

Depending on how they approach me, I usually say something like, “Unfortunately, I cannot offer a discount on top of my already discounted services,” or just even, “Sorry, I can’t offer discounts at this time.” That usually doesn’t result in a sale, but I usually find that if someone has trouble paying “full price,” from the get-go, they’re not going to be thrilled with the result no matter what I do.

What I personally tell the buyer is that i rarely give discounts since it would be unfair

to the other buyers who have paid the full price.

Usually they understand and pay.

In other cases they get upset, call me greedy, and tells me they can find "Another better seller

who offers a similar gig at a cheaper price."

Some of them come back after a while 😛

I don’t offer discounts and generally reply with something similar to @emasonwrites. If I think it may pan out to be a particularly good order or buyer, I’ll offer some ‘token’ of work, just a little sweetener that will only take a minute or two of my time, but still adds value to the order.

Reply to @catwriter: That’s my main impetus, too. Every time…and I mean every time I’ve given someone a break, it has been a bad experience. They ask for a “one time” discount and then get mad when I ask them to pay full price next time, they get a discount and then are entirely unreasonable about the amount of work or how much time they expect me to spend on it, etc., etc. Someone who isn’t willing to pay $5 for, yes, what I’m willing to offer for $5, but for what’s already a pretty great deal, is usually fairly entitled about the whole transaction.

I was reminded by another user on a thread similar to this one, however, that it might not be best to “shame” buyers who are operating under the “You’ll never get anything if you don’t ask,” assumption…ugh, but it’s so tempting because they’re often so self-righteous about it. Can’t you offer me a special rate? Something special for me?
