Does our beloved Fiverr want us to quit and find some other place?

Was the customer’s right to not mark an order complete and force us to edit, not enough? Was it not enough for buyers to have the right to force cancellation? Shouldn’t we be entitled to our money once our hard work is MARKED COMPLETE by a buyer? Wasn’t Fiverr already hard enough on us sellers?

It has happened thrice that CS team cancelled an order after the customer marked it complete. Before, the customers had an option to not mark the order complete unless they were satisfied, now a buyer is at risk until doomsday. A client may ask for a work worth $1000 and after getting it and accepting it, get it cancelled from the CS any time. May I know the limitations of this new ‘insane’ power granted to the buyers? What should the sellers do if a buyer gets an order cancelled after asking for editing and being served with it? I loved and I still love Fiverr for providing a launch to a new freelancer like me, but are you guys asking me and others to leave? Any reply from senior members and espeically the victims of this policy will be appreciated.

Thanks for reply! I do love fiverr, because it gave me an amazing opportunity. I don’t have to find a job 😃 So you are telling me that the person has been removed from fiverr? If it is so, I should be happy, but the CS team message ADVISES me to contact the buyer and see how we can talk about ‘miscommunication’? This means that he is still avialable on Fiverr 😦

Reply to @poetbilalahmed: Actually, it doesn’t. It’s possible that the buyer contacted CS and asked for a refund and if so, the buyer did it and CS just did what the buyer asked. They do generally side with buyers. The other possibility is that the buyer filed a dispute with either their credit card company or PayPal. If that happens Fiverr can’t do anything and they are forced to refund the money.

When a buyer gets their money back it is unfortunate for you and for Fiverr. You don’t get paid and Fiverr doesn’t get paid. It is only fortunate for the buyer who sometimes gets free work out of it.

mmmh this always saddens me. I agree it’s unfair, however this happens outside of Fiverr too. I mean any freelancer or small company knows these pains all to well. Pay Pal also sides with the buyer and not the seller. I even had recently that a big client went bankrupt…and I wasn’t high on the list due to not having fancy lawyers. Ah well, the list goes on…but if Fiverr could possibly change something of course that would be awesome.

Thanks for the comments guys, Fiverr CS has confirmed that the money was refunded by them on insistence by buyer, although they weren’t able to tell me the reasons why buyer wanted to get the order cancelled. They ADVISED me to talk to the buyer to learn about his reservations. Why the hell I will do it, he got free work, wasted my time on original work and editing and still got away with his bloody money. I don’t know if this shit happens to sellers on Elance and o Desk.

Only one way to find out. ;)

Yeah, Fiverr CS will just about always side with the seller and provide a credit. Because, if a buyer is unhappy and Fiverr credits the money, Fiverr gets to keep their commission; if a buyer is unhappy and Fiverr doesn't give a credit, the buyer will do a chargeback and Fiverr loses their commission.

same happen to me, my first sales, the buyer was happy, even left positive feedback then cancelled the deal and Fiverr refund him. But he is no more on Fiverr so i assume as someone said earlier he did a chargeback through paypal and Fiverr kick him out.

Reply to @poetbilalahmed: If an order is cancelled by CS, the refund is supplied as a Fiverr credit to be used only on Fiverr. Fiverr retains the 20% commission for ‘the sale’ no matter who ends up providing the service for that $5*. That’s why they only offer credits and not refunds.

(*Or whatever the value of the order and commission is.)

just some time ago a buyer who placed an order without asking of over 100$ to which i struggled for a couple of days now tells me that it’s not good… and this happens after i sent him a preview to which he agreed happily…i have been tricked too many times and i got tired already…and my morale is down to the ground level, i really got tired of such people…can’t fiverr do anything? some people are pure cheats…why are they allowed to play with honest sellers !!! :-<

Unfortunately, the best thing to do is to monitor your own work. If an order is too complicated - especially if it's for a new buyer - cancel early or get the buyer to break it down into smaller orders. It might cost a few sales, but that can be better than working for nothing.

Good luck in the future!

Reply to @silvinyo: I have had a look at your profilel; you are another writer. Writing is not that bad, I complain about an order of $50, but I received an order of $100 from a stranger, $120 from a not-so-repeat-but-happy-client and $200 from a repeat client; none of them were cancelled mutually or forcefully. All of them gave me 5 star rating with hearty reviews. Do not give up; Fiverr is still the best freelance forum.
