Why not have a "Genuine" seller?

Recently I have been trying to have a text translated from English to French. I originally had a wonderful individual who translated the text by hand and it was authentic and genuine. I was able to use and publish it as I wanted.

I have since lost this contact and I had to search for another translator that could offer the same quality. I told myself “No Problem, tons of translators on Fiverr” … boy was I wrong.

I bought a gig from the first seller and received the translation very fast. I opened it, read through it and decided to compare it with a copy and paste of the Google translation… DING DING DING, 98% match. I stumbled upon a GOOGLE PLAGIARIZER. Copies and pastes results and skims through the text quickly to catch the Google mistakes. The first translator that did this to me made awful mistakes it was a real joke.

The second seller that did this to me was much more careful with the corrections and only made one error however, still a 97% Google Translation match. I’m assuming people aren’t aware that plagiarism checkers exist and one only has to compare the Google results with Seller results.

Anyways, all of this said and done I thought why couldn’t Fiverr implement a “Genuine” or “Authentic” label for sellers. If a buyer cannot verify that a translation is done well they are at the risk of the seller’s translation. A plagiarized translation that contains errors is a nightmare if published by a business. The ‘Good Deal’ you got for 5 bucks on Fiverr will negatively impact your business’s look and reputation.

Implement an “Authentic Work” label or something that can only be acquired through intense scrutiny by a buyer or Fiverr itself.

I have found a new translator that does produce GENUINE translations. I am willing to put my name on the line for her work. Her Username is Frenchshrimp and her Gig can be found here:

https://www.fiverr.com/frenchshrimp/translate-any-text-from-english-to-french?funnel=2014111618451577512808980

I have all the comparison proof required alongside my ability to read french to say that this Gig is genuine and the translation offered by Frenchshrimp is 100% done by hand, by her. She deserves to be recognized for this and not thrown into the pile with the Google Plagiarizers.

Slap a genuine sticker on her.

Concerned for the Fiverr buyers who cannot verify the translations they receive from their sellers.

I do genuine, hand translations to English on fiverr to build up my portfolio and while I have to say that I do not approve or condone of any seller translating with google translate and passing it off as a manual translation, I can understand why. Translations take a LONG time and they are hard to do, especially if you are aiming for quality. Once I build up a nice portfolio I won’t be translating anymore on here because it is way too cheap for the time it needs. Buyers are often looking for miracles for $5 and you have to realize that there is a reason that in the “real world” translations cost (in general) at least 15 cents a word…and it is not because people are trying to rip you off, it is because translating is hard and takes a lot of skill and on Fiverr we are definitely not paid enough! I undersand things are expensive and businesses have budgets, but more often than not you really do only get what you pay for. So wading through bad translators is just the (very cheap, I think) price you pay for being able to find someone who will translate well for so cheap.

Kudos to Frenchshrimp tho, she clearly translates fast and well 🙂

I like the idea up to a point. I’ve had people tell me that they’ve purchased from accounts claiming all sorts of things that turned out to not be true. I see seller profiles that are partially or entirely made up with stock profile photos. I see people selling likes, logos, translations, and writing or re-writing by using software and PLR articles that result in poor products at best. First or second time buyers sometimes don’t realize the amazing bargain they are getting by paying $5-200 for a genuine service (translations and all other categories) since it appears to them there are hundreds of people selling the same thing for a few bucks.

The sad thing to me is that there is even a need for a label like this. I can understand a new profile getting away with it for a few days or weeks, but some of the fakes and imposters have been out there for some time and someone still pockets a little money off of those without delivering even a moderately decent service. Who would be responsible to label the seller as “genuine”? If Fiverr has to do it, I am not sure it would happen since they are already apparently short on staff. If it is done automatically, some buyers would use it to manipulate sellers in ways that already happen with the ARS and levels systems.

I agree that the translators working truthfully on Fiverr are offering their services for below poverty level pay - that is a given. When I stumbled upon this site and found translations as a category, I was surprised. Browsing through the ‘gigs’ I was baffled to see people offering 500 word translations, let alone the monster 1000 word translation that scrolled by now and then. What sucks is how they advertise that they have the expertise and infinite knowledge to carry out what they claim, then give you something that isn’t theirs. It is fraud towards the buyer and fraud towards whomever they are stealing it from.

I have had a few translations done not through the internet and I know how much it costs and how long it takes to complete a translation. You can bet that I will NEVER pay what Frenchshrimp is asking for - I will pay more.

I realize implementing such thing would require too much work and cost a lot of money, it’s just too bad that genuine people who deserve to not be piled in with the frauds cannot be recognized for who they are and what they honestly offer.

To sellers who read this:

If you do have the skills, just charge more. It’s still a bargain for the buyers that you actually want to deal with …and they know that.
