The reply you got is... very bland and vague.

Editing a gig depends on so, so many factors. The biggest I'd say is the internal factor of accuracy, followed closely by the external factor of relevance. The first is pretty self-explanatory: if there're typos or outdated information then the gig should be edited.

The second is trickier, as market and environment conditions change. To use an offline example: when the iPhone was introduced, competitors in the cell phone market jumped to create their own versions, because they recognized the disruption of the market and change in technology. For a counter example, where a market change turned out to have been read wrong:

Quote

It's been a long held standard: change as often as needed

Sometimes that means seasonally, like places that have grass lawns but also get snow must service different equipment (lawn mowers and snow plows) depending on the time of year. Sometimes that means based on events and releases and trends, like with who's in a sports playoffs or what car models are coming out or if pineapple belongs on pizza.

Industry relevance is a big part of evaluating the necessity for updating a gig. What's relevant for a proofreading gig is unlikely to be relevant for a logo gig. There is no one-size-fits-all answer.
