Question

Hi! 🙂 So yesterday my good friend, who's been a seller on Fiverr for a couple years now, got permanently banned for supposed 'rule violation' (regarding communication with a client). The problem is - it's not supported by an actual rule violation. Let me explain. So he was messaged by a potential buyer, and asked to discuss the order via the in-system Zoom call, that you can access by message window toolbar. First of - they were discussing in polish, but the buyer was only partially familiar with the language, and had trouble communicating. The problem is - said buyer was NOT familiar with TOS clearly, as she was implying will to discuss outside Fiverr (email). My friend (seller) was explaining that it is not acceptable, and all discussion must be made on Fiverr. The problematic buyer did in fact share their email address, via the Zoom call, despite the fact, that my friend did not agree to such communication (but he did not use that email). Later, after the call, the buyer sent him a message in broken polish, which may have implied email communication (which did not happen). Soon after that his account was perma-banned, and the buyer (who actually violated TOS) was not (which I can see, for she contacted me first, before I sent her my friend's Fiverr account). It really seems an unfair situation, and for people like me, my friend and many others, who treat Fiverr as their main income source, their main job it is honestly SCARY that you can just lose it, even if you don't do anything wrong 😞 How can one protect themselves from such situations? What if in theory, someone who simply wishes you harm, messages your account out of the blue, and causes your ban intentionally? What can we do to prevent this type of scenario? 😞 And also - what can one do, to save such situation and save their account, which they worked so hard for?

Is there a way to access the in-fiverr Zoom call recording? If the Fiverr team would be able to review the Zoom call data, it would probably suffice as a proof...

Hi there, did your friend contact the Customer Support team? You can't get this resolved for them, as you won't be able to get any information on another user's account. Your friend should ask the team to review the issue, and any additional relevant team will be included if needed.

The best way to keep your account safe is to report anyone who violates the Terms of Service and Community Standards right away, and it might be worth taking a look at the links once again just in case there's something you've missed (nobody should know them by heart). So, in case of any account issues, the best practice is to contact the Customer Support team right away and report any violations. Good luck to you and your friend, hope they get their account back 🍀

This is indeed a frustrating situation, and unfortunately, it’s something we’ve encountered as well. Buyers often try to share their contact details, intentionally or unintentionally, which can lead to such issues.

The key is maintaining a strong stance against accepting or using external contact details. Always clearly communicate that all discussions must stay on Fiverr, as your friend did. This proactive approach can help avoid misunderstandings and keep your account safe.

Now that the account is banned, your friend should provide detailed proof to Fiverr support, showing their clear intention of not violating the TOS. Screenshots of conversations and a professional appeal can make a difference.

To prevent such situations, always document all communication, use Fiverr’s tools (like Zoom) responsibly, and immediately report any suspicious behavior to Fiverr. Staying vigilant and transparent is the best defense against unfair bans.

Yes, Zoom recordings are stored. Even the seller can access the recording for up to 30 days (from the inbox). But, since your friend's account is gone, she will not be able to access the recording herself (as she is not able to log into the account). She can definitely reach out to customer support though, to review the recording (as they have access) and possibly request them to send it to her as well.
