Please help, a year waiting for updates from a client.

Question

Posted

I have a client I used to work well with—they’d place an order, I’d complete it, and they’d return with another. Eventually, they began placing multiple orders at once, which was fine at first, but then they started delaying the materials needed to complete them. For example, I’d make an instrumental, and they’d need to record and send vocals, but their singers canceled. For other orders, I’d send my work and wait for feedback, but they’d only say, “I’ll send feedback soon.”

This has gone on for a year. I’ve kept requesting deadline extensions, which they approve, but the orders remain incomplete because I’m still waiting on feedback or files. I’ve tried reaching out several times, and they always cite health issues or surgeries as reasons for the delay, promising to resolve things soon, but nothing changes. And of course, I completely understand these situations, but it’s been a year, and I still haven’t received any updates on our orders. A simple "I don’t like this, change it" would be enough, but no, nothing.

Now, my Success Score is dropping despite all my reviews being 5 stars and delivering every other order on time. I believe it’s because of the repeated extensions for these orders. At this point, I don’t care about payment—I just want to cancel these orders because they’re negatively impacting my profile. Is it possible to cancel them without affecting my account further? Or is there another solution someone can suggest?

I would really appreciate your help. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

You can go to customer support and ask them for guidance.

But based on my experience, cancel. However, is the order delivered and now in revision mode? If the order was delivered and you cancel, you will not get paid, and the customer will be able to leave a review. So keep that in mind. If the order is inactive (without requirements) or if it was started, however you did not deliver anything, you will end up being penalized because it's a regular cancellation. Which eventually wears off.

Personally, I would refund, because it seems to be stressful and a huge headache. As I said, keep in mind that if your order/s are in revision mode now, that means you already delivered something, and in that situation, the buyer can leave a review for every canceled order.

I haven’t delivered anything yet, so I guess I’ll just have to cancel them. Thank you for your response, hearing this from someone with more experience on the platform helped me see things more clearly and handle it better, as I thought canceling the orders would leave a permanent mark on my account.

If the orders are inactive, just cancel. I have over 10 inactive orders like that.. What happens is Fiverr will cancel inactive orders when they are 2-3 years old, around that.. they just do a purge of inactive orders.

You can ask for a cancellation and then go to customer support when the order is canceled, tell them if they can revise your stats because you canceled the order due to the buyer being inactive. Even if you cancel and don't go to customer support, the cancellation will only affect you for a few months. It won't have a permanent mark on your account. But it will be taken into account if it's newer, at least for a while.

The success score covers cancellations, private and public reviews, late deliveries and other stuff from the past 2 years. But the older the reviews or cancellations are, the less impact they have. Newer stuff always has the most impact.
