Getting scammed out of $5000. No response from Fiverr.

Question

Posted

I made an order with an amazon VA freelancer. We agreed on $5000 to pay for inventory for a supplier and also said that he could get the funds as soon as I hit completed order. Now I know that's not true and it takes weeks for freelancers to receive the funds. He comes back three days later saying he needs more money now and and the supplier wont be able to fulfill the order with the investment I sent. The new investment is $10,000. I tell him I don't have that and I only have what we agreed on. After some back and forth I realize this guy didn't know the suppliers MOQ and took my money without being sure so he is unable to fulfill what we had agreed on. That or he did know and is running some kind of scam. I ask for a refund he tells me no bluntly and starts to demand I give him the other $10,000 or i will lose my investment. I go to fiverr support and submit a ticket and after talking with them they said they'll forward it to the right team. That's been almost a week. Can someone tell me is this normal for response times to be this long?

Well, Did you place an order with that seller after checking their reviews? If they have a good number of positive public reviews, they probably won’t scam you. It’s possible they need a larger investment.

And since you’ve already contacted customer support for a refund, you can patiently wait for their response. CS will surely help you and make every possible effort to get your funds refunded. The response might be delayed due to the holidays, but as soon as they see your email, they will respond to you.

We are during the holidays... and aside from that, there might be a lot of tickets to deal with. Not to mention the fraud department might not be working now..

Regardless, if they find something fishy and in this case, the seller seems to be the one who marked the incomplete order as complete, most likely you will get your refund.

Hi @messiah1290, sorry to read about this unpleasant and frustrating experience. I see that you've created tickets on this subject with the CS team. Please use the original ticket only to communicate with the team instead of creating new tickets while waiting to hear back from them. That way full conversation and all info would be in one place and easier to follow on both sides. Sadly some steps might be taking a bit longer than others, especially when there's a complex issue in questions and different teams need to be involved. Please wait patiently to hear back from the CS team, as soon as they have an update from you they'll let you know, so thanks for your patience 🍀
