It’s the question that every new and eager seller has from the moment they hit “publish” on a new gig. It’s one that even more seasoned sellers find themselves pondering from time to time:
“How do I increase my rank and get on the first page?”

Before I spill the tea on Fiverr’s algorithm and what you should consider when trying to improve your ranking, let’s clarify a few things.

For starters, understand that fluctuations in your analytics are completely normal, especially if you are reviewing them daily.

Yes, I know–seeing your impressions take a dip can be absolutely gut-wrenching. But, it’s normal and happens even to the best of them. Expecting to always trend upwards or remain steady simply isn’t realistic, especially with external factors such as the number of buyers on the platform and marketplace trends also playing a role.

So, instead of fixating yourself on monitoring daily changes, focus on long-term trends which will give you a more accurate picture of your performance.

Secondly, remember that Fiverr is a curated marketplace, meaning search results are personalized to each user based on their buying behavior and other data. This means that where you appear on search results when searching from your page may be completely different than what another user would see.

It’s important to keep these two things in mind to avoid undue worry or misinterpreting the situation.

Now, in the cases where your gig is undoubtedly ranking low or declining, here’s what you need to know about our algorithm:

  • Buyer satisfaction is key. Since our algorithm focuses on pushing good quality sellers to relevant buyers, your buyer satisfaction will always play a significant role in your ranking. This means that while focusing on keywords and SEO can be helpful to a certain extent, your top priority should be delivering top-notch service, and securing good public and private reviews.
  • Over-optimizing your profile can backfire. Don’t get me wrong– optimizing your profile is great. Changing it too often, however, can confuse the algorithm and make it less likely that it will push your gigs in relevant searches. If you make changes, give it 3-4 weeks to gauge whether the changes are helping or hurting.
  • Availability matters. As a best practice, it’s always in your best interest to complete your projects efficiently and on time to ensure the algorithm knows you are ready for more work. Further, be mindful of your time away from the platform. While we encourage you to take breaks and turning on Vacation Mode doesn’t directly impact your profile, remember that our algorithm looks at data from recent activity to know which Gigs to push out. Not having recent activity due to long periods of inactivity may cause the algorithm to slow down pushing out your Gigs. Maintaining consistent activity helps keep your gigs visible.

At the end of the day, the hot question of improving your ranking doesn’t have a magic answer or quick fix. Instead, it’s all about being intentional in delivering exceptional service to your clients while also remaining consistent and patient. Focus on these few principles, and before you know it, you’ll be on the road to page one.

Good luck!

@Kesha Very apt post!

But new sellers don't bother reading much on the forum and I seriously doubt their attention span and comprehension skills too.

So may be this post can be made into a nice 1-minute explainer video which can be part of freelancing essentials and they can also receive the content of this post (along with video) via email, after publishing their 1st gig!!

This could work!

If videos are hard to process (because they need to be listened to, etc) I've pitched the idea of doing small 'comics' before as well with very simple language. Nothing too crazy or silly, just straight-to-the point text that explains the basics.

All of the points above are valid (though perhaps also fairly evident to those who have been here for a bit) but languages are hard (and apparently, even fluent English-speakers have a pretty high rate of functional illiteracy (this is such a sad fact!) So maybe videos and graphics (that are short and simple) could help a ton!

Great insight!

But could we have some specific post for new people here who have been waiting from two to three months for leads. I mean no doubt making a change in Gig affects visibility, or too much or too less of competition in niches perspective could always keep one under the water, but still despite competition, if someone has skills that are in high competition niche only what could be helpful then?

I hope I am making a little sense 🙂

Thank you.

Hi @Kesha, such an insightful post!

Just started a gig 4 days back, the forum and blog is helping me a lot in understanding what the creators of Fiverr wants from the freelancers like me.
I have understood by now that patience is the key, but still hoping that I get my first client quickly.

These are both great ideas and in line with some of the future plans we have to diversify the way we present information on the forum! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

A good piece of information,  I joined recently and found everything has changed.

a tough competition is awaiting me, although I am fond of writing and doing keen research work but not have space to show my potential

I am sharing my gig on different social media forums doing what is being suggested by others but unable to receive a single serious buyer. ...scam or promotional buyers are there ... being a new seller my gig is nowhere.. but I'm still hopeful to achieve my goal.

Hi Kesha!

thank you very much for responding. I did go through most of the posts when I joined. Optimized the profile as well. I am just being patient. I have most skills in high demand niche I guess so I need to be more patient. Regarding portfolio, Maybe that is where I need to put in more efforts. I do have samples but most are I confidential work hence unable to post.

I guess I need to put up my own website and then slowly prove my skills with work I can show without client's approval.

Thank you for always responding 🙂

Indeed.
It is common knowledge that those so-called Youtube gurus talk a lot of nonsense. Their only goal is to make money. They don't give a damn whether or not you will be successful on Fiverr.

When someone uses such phrases - it only means that either person is being misguided or this isn't their first rodeo on Fiverr, they had a different account before.

Thanks @Kesha , though it may be helpful to clarify this point a bit more if you may (particularly the part in red-orange).

Is there a specified number of days that you would recommend, for example, here's a situation I run into and perhaps some may as well. I'd like to take a break to travel, perhaps two weeks, however, in order to do so I need to pause incoming orders and finish the ones in queue, so this may mean the gig is paused for about three weeks instead. I haven't taken a break this year so this is my first time in a while, hoping with all the changes made that things return to normal when I return albeit may start off slower.

Thanks.

Typically, your gig image will have more impact on your conversion rate than it would on your ranking.

Hi!

I can't really specify how many days of inactivity will cause a shift in your gig performance since it varies based on the category. But I understand that taking a vacation is an investment in your health, and therefore, I would strongly encourage you to do so!

If you are looking to protect your gig, consider these alternatives to turning on vacation mode:

  • Delivery Date Extension: a week before taking the time off, extend the delivery time in all your packages.
  • Add text in Gig description: Include a short message at the beginning of the gig description ‘Delivery times may take longer than usual, as I am away from X-X’.
  • Limit Orders in Queue.
  • Disabling the gig extra: ’extra fast delivery.
  • Write a manual Quick response ‘Hey, I’m OOO right now and I will get back to you and your message on X date. Otherwise, spend 2 minutes and answer.
  • Consider increasing prices for the time away on vacation to lower the chance of achieving orders.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing these insights! It's a great reminder that success on Fiverr isn't just about quick fixes but about consistently delivering value to clients. I particularly resonate with the point about focusing on long-term trends rather than getting caught up in daily analytics fluctuations—such a healthy approach.

The tip about not over-optimizing and allowing time to evaluate changes is also gold. It's easy to get impatient and tweak things too often. And I did it many times.

@Kesha  Thanks a lot for your post. Now I understand that over-optimization can backfire for a Fiverr account. I did it last month, like (deleting all gigs and publishing new gigs on SEO-related topics), and I faced some issues. My new SEO topics gig did not rank with good optimization. I think it will be ranking soon, and I will get the SEO topics gig order quickly.
