A heads up to buyers about what a cancellation does to a seller

Wow, I didn’t know how bad this was- I’ve never canceled, and never had the temptation. It’s 5 bucks man, not 50. If you can’t afford the $5 or may have a problem with paying, you shouldn’t be here. I actually was overdrawn at the bank at one point due to another unrelated (unauthorized) charge to my account, and made a special trip in to make a deposit, rather than cancel. I didn’t even know about the seller penalty.

Is there a rating for buyers, or just sellers? I’ve just started selling, and don’t know. If not, maybe there should be one (saying this as a BUYER primarily), and have it affect your place in line for busy gigs, or if you start selling? Just a newbie thought…

Right now there doesn't seem to be a rating system in place for buyers, at least not like a seller's rating and not from what I can see of my own buyers. Fiverr seemed to take away a few of the previous features we did have when viewing someone's profile, such as how long they've been a member and when they were last active. It shows how long someone's been a member when they're primarily a seller, but not when they're a buyer. That was helpful because I run marketing campaigns for my gigs, and being able to see how long a buyer for a new order has been a member gave me an idea of whether those buyers were coming from an outside source such as my campaigns or from within Fiverr.

And it doesn't seem to show last activity at all anymore. That was helpful because whenever I had unresponsive buyers I could at least look at their profiles and see that their last activity was like 10 min. ago (so they're likely ignoring me for some reason) or 2 days ago (so they've likely just not been back to the site since placing the order).

Would be nice to know a bit more about a buyer ahead of time though, such as how many (if any) cancellations they've requested, their feedback responsiveness and how previous sellers have rated them. Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't change the way I treat any of my buyers (it's first come, first served with the exception of express orders...I don't treat any one buyer as better or more important than another), but it would be nice to have a heads up in terms of how a particular order might go based on a buyer's rating and previous actions. Then I wouldn't be at all surprised when I don't receive any feedback or when an order might have to be cancelled and I can prepare for it. After all, buyers get all kinds of details about us before they buy. Would be nice if we could get the same on our end to streamline the running of our own businesses and have better preparation for cancellation situations.

Would also be nice to have the "last activity x minutes go" feature back in place for both buyers and sellers, and to have the "X months / years since joining Fiverr" back in place on buyer profiles instead of just on seller profiles.

“Buyer has not submitted required info” Button should be enabled to pause timer and stop unnecessary cancellations."

Thank you!!!

I had an idiot buyer purchase my gig, and then try to force me to do what she wanted. My gig SPECIFICALLY said “calls to UNITED STATES ONLY” and no “sales calls, telemarketing, cold calls, prospecting” etc. She gives me no instructions until ONE DAY before gig is due. Then she tells me she wants me to prospect call businesses in UK. I have no bloody way of ever being able to call anyone in the UK. I have no s***e or Google Talk. I have no home phone. There isn’t even a pay phone in the small town I live in. I have a US ONLY prepaid cell phone. I begged CS for help. I told her that I COULD NOT do what she wanted me to do. Still my rating is now 50%. Because she was too much of a moron, to read and comprehend my gig. Now I pay the price. CS says I have to take care of it with her. This is ridiculous!

Would I be allowed to order a gig for a knitted red scarf, and then tell the seller I want crocheted black mittens? When she doesn’t fill the order, should I be allowed to give her a bad rating? No matter that she can’t crochet, has no black yarn, and can’t make mittens. Would that be fair? NO!

Why don’t they require buyers to include instructions with their purchase, and allow sellers the option of accepting the sale, or rejecting it, if the transaction is unacceptable?

This would be great! It would go hand in hand with providing more info about buyers on their profiles, such as how long they've been members of Fiverr (the old site did this for all profiles, now it seems that this only shows for those who've been sellers at some point), how long ago their latest activity was (again, we used to have this feature for all profiles but don't seem to have it for any now) and perhaps things like what the buyer's cancellation rate is and what their average responsiveness is. It would be nice to look at more details on a buyer's profile even after receiving an order and have enough information about the buyer to determine whether or not you want to accept the order, rather than having to request a mutual cancellation (which eventually does negatively impact a seller's rankings) once a buyer is found to be uncooperative.

Perhaps Fiverr will look into such an option...allowing sellers to decide whether or not they want to accept a new order based on various bits of info about the buyer from their profile (same as buyers get to view on seller profiles). Of course, it would make sense that if you don't accept or reject the order after a certain amount of time that it counts as a cancellation on your behalf rather than the buyer's. That is a perfectly good reason for a cancellation which penalizes the seller.

Otherwise, the current policy for cancellations is just too one-sided in favor of buyers only (including those who don't always have the best of intentions).

Hi lisha,

I’m new to fiverr but i just paid a 5iver to get a service done. after waiting 1 day i got a cancellation request from the seller.

i had already prior to making the order, and also during the order, explained what it is i need from him, which i felt fell under his service description for a fiverr, within an hour period.

so i told him i knew that the work may be a bit much, so if 1 fiverr would not be enough time, i would be willing to extend to 2 gig.

as i’ve been wasting all that time corresponding with myself apparently, the seller requests a cancellation. No reason given. no chance to reach any compromise or even reach an equitable agreement for getting what is needed to be done.

in that instance, how else is the buyer suppose to react ?

  1. yes i did read description.
  2. yes i did provide enough detail what it is i expect.

but what i get instead is
  3. time wasted
  4. no communication, for the buyer to understand what is happening.
  5. no reason given for cancellation

If that’s not bad enough, i did point out i was a new user and this was my first time. I also did my research online how the fiverr system worked.

    So my first time using it, i’m deeply disappointed, because nevermind that the work didn’t get done, but the problem lies with the fact that time was wasted, which is crucial to me, because i need to get the work done within a week, not waste time with a lack of communication x_x;

I do realize not all my tasks may in the sellers perspective fall under what it is they offer, and i respect that as they do have the right to reject work they don’t feel falls under the service they provide.

That said, if i had known much earlier this was not something they were interested in, i could have used that time to search elsewhere to get the job done.

As they say time is money, and mine was wasted 😦

PS: i don’t think it’s appropriate to ask for ftp and other site login details prior to agreeing to accept to do the work.

Yes when ordering from fiverr, it will do that, but that still does not guarantee that the seller would not cancel the order within the day countdown.

Also in my case, i had prior contact with seller before making the order, for which he asks for my site login details, which now is probably premature, because he doesn’t want to do the task now (not even started as far as i am aware, seeing as i’m kept in the dark)

Reply to @lisha5684: You said, "“they’re gonna have to go with a different seller” but whats the use if they don’t see the delivery time, you are absolutely right in a case if buyer doesn’t want to pay extra for getting it earlier. Thanks!
