Fiverr client keeps asking for modifications indefinitely

Question

Posted

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well. I am currently working with a client that requested a revision after first delivery (which is perfectly okay), but after that they didn't request revisions but kept asking for modifications. So I'm an artist and I finished the artwork for them. They had no issues with the art itself, but the size/dimensions of the work. They told me the exact measurements in length and height and I did that exactly, even sent them screenshots of proof that it was in the correct size, yet they still keep telling me that its not useable, and as to my confusion, I told them I don't understand why its not working or useable and I tried my best. Today they demanded another modification, sending me modified measurements/margins for the artwork. This time I did it again, and sent it to them, but I feel they will just keep asking for modifications and it is driving to the brink of absolute insanity. I cannot take their bs anymore, and at this point I feel like cancelling the order would be best, but that would mean they get the work I did for them for free, and I get nothing. They go home laughing and I go home crying and accidentally stubbing my toe under a rock. That is the way it'll turn out. Yay.

I contacted Fiverr support team, they created a ticket for me and told me I should expect to get help/a response from them within 12 hours. And I delivered the order (with final modifications) to my client and hope (and pray) that they accept the order and move on, because I am a mere human being with limits, and I cannot modify it anymore. Oh and let me add, they didn't even say anything about the final artwork itself, no complaints, changes, or anything about. Nothing. What's up with that? I'm an artist, not a printing company, if my files are unusable for their printers, I can't see how it is my problem. I tried my best to help and make modifications, but I can't anymore. I just can't.

Did any of you have similar experiences with this, and do you have any advice? All responses are greatly appreciated, thank you T_T

What dimension is he/she asking for the file in, and did you ask him/her what platform he/she intends to use it on? Does he/she need it for printing purposes?

At first, they said 2.5'' wide and 3.5'' high, and that is exactly the measurements I did the project in. After I delivered, they asked me if it was correct because the site they tried to put it in cropped it. I told them I'm not sure why, and showed them the measurements and the work (screenshot). Then they told me their printer couldn't print it because the print quality is too poor, and said their printer says; ''low, quality, the minimum image upload size requirements are 747 x 1122 pixels''. So they told me ''if you have a larger file but proportionate with the figures provided, send it to me, at least I'll try to see if it's printable, thanks.'' And so I did it, I sent her larger files (3000 by 4200 pixel dimensions), and it still didn't work. This time they said ''Thank u, I'll try to resolve and don't worry: I'll give u good review, u are very friendly. Let me just a moment for understand why this dumb program doesn't work good. Then If I'll pay for other change, I accept it.'' And I thought then it was settled, and told them I hope they come right with it. The next day (today), they sent me the exact file measurements in a PSD and pdf file, which I check both, and tested the file in them. The file indeed was cropped, but I figured out a way to fix it by just readjusting the size of the pixels and cropping only the sides by like 1mm each. And then I saw that it fit, and I resent the modified file to them. And they ignored the file I sent them and said ''It's the software that use the typography for print!''. At that point I was so lost, I just told them that I unfortunately do not know what else to do then. Later today they said; ''Ok, I'll give u some margins for print find online. Please try to respect that. I repeat, If it is extra work and pay let me now.'' And I told them that I unfortunately cannot help them any further, because what they want from me is out of scope with my gig (I offer illustrations alone, and if the dimensions they ask that I use doesn't work, I don't know what is wrong, I don't know enough about printing), and that they wouldn't have to pay because the order isn't finished yet and every revision/change they request is still within the order. But I literally cannot give them what they want, because every time I send modifications to the image size, another problem arises.

So for the last time, I applied the last modifications, made very minor adjustments to the size (because the new modifications they sent me weren't even that different, literally just off by 1 mm and like 0.5 mm). I delivered it again to them today and told them; ''Please understand, that I have made the modifications now, and if they are still unusable, then there is nothing more I can do, seeing that this is the final modification.'' At this point I am at my breaking point, ready to cancel the order. If they request another revision and modification about the file size, I will probably lose it and just say ''thank you for choosing me for this project, but I unfortunately have to cancel the order, seeing that I am not able to deliver what you want, and think a refund would be good for you.'' But if I cancel I would feel dead inside and feel scammed, because I did good work for them and they get it for free. So instead of that...yeah, I just contacted fiver support about it 😞

Thank you for responding

@careladlem From what you've shared of what they've said, it really does not seem like they are trying to scam you. They've emphasized that they are willing to pay for all of the tweaking you are doing to try to get their software to print it right. They obviously like you and your work enough to try to get it to work right.

By reaching out to Customer Service about the order, though, you've compromised the "conflict free orders" metric of the gig's succstress score, just so you know in the future.

Thank you for responding, and yeah I figured, but I don't want them to pay extra because I don't think it's really necessary, I mean it's just the image size, it's not really major changes. I just want them to be happy and satisfied in the end, and want to make it as easy as possible for them, but it seems I can't get anything right with the image size, and I probably never will.

And dang, I see, gotcha :'D

There are so many reputable online printing services. If I were them I'd consider trying one.

@careladlem Well, as far as I can tell, they probably needed different sizes for their different products. They might not know how to explain it properly, which is why they keep changing their dimensions repeatedly for their various products.

Or maybe they don’t want to tell you exactly which products they plan to use it for so that you don’t charge them extra. That’s why they might be repeatedly asking for changes in dimensions.

"Whenever clients tell you they need the file for printing, you should ask them which product they’re going to use this file on and in how many sizes they need it. I can provide it in those sizes and dimensions, like 3x5, 4x7, etc."

If you had told them this, they might have given you all the sizes and dimensions upfront, and you wouldn’t have had to reach this point.

True, I did kindly tell them that they might find more help at a printing store in their country, but they ignored it, sadly.

True, and I think because of the language barrier (they're from Italy and their English is not the best), it's a bit hard for me most times to understand what they're saying. I just try to keep my professional cool though, and try to communicate with them politely.

And yeah, thing is though, I did technically tell them that, and they gave me the precise size and even modifications for it, which I applied changes to happily and sent them (which they just ignored by sending me more modifications), so yeah I felt maybe on their end there was an issue that I myself cannot solve, because on my end I did everything I could.

And another thing is, I actually know/have a strong idea of what product they want to use it for. I illustrated a clue card for a card game, and usually the average physical card sizes are like poker card size, 2.5'' by 3.5'', which is the original measurements they gave me. And I actually did send them the file in the correct size, but it didn't work with *their* printer or *their* programs, so they just told me basically that they will only accept the order after they resolved the issue. But they didn't resolve it, and want me to resolve it. But I...can't. Ahh. Life.

Update: I finished the project with my client, and it ended well (got a 5 star review). Customer support did get back to me, and luckily they did not cancel the order, someone from the Fiverr team just reached out through email and gave me advice, which I applied, so yeah.

Thanks again for the responses and likes everyone, stay safe and stay professional ( ✧≖ ͜ʖ≖)
