So this is a real bummer. I often SEARCH (in the search field) for certain users to refer to them to buyers. I also tell others to, "just search my username or name and I come right up" but that ability to search for certain users NO LONGER WORKS. Why? What possibly would be the benefit to this? You can't even look someone up by their username. My guess is the search filed is being used for something else and doesn't function like normal search fields. All good websites have a search field so you can easily find things inside the website, especially one so robust as Fiverr.

Also, it's so much more personal to communicate to people by their name, so I use peoples names frequently. I will always remember a name, but some usernames are so obscure and have nothing to do with the gig.

Plus, why do we have our personal names in our description if we can't even be searched? This makes no sense.

I feel bummed for all the people I have told to "just search my name" in Fiverr. Since that no longer works, I now have to start a list of individual links to gigs. That seems super old school to me and should not be the way you can connect referrals. What are your thoughts?

Yes that's how I have always searched. Some people come up and some don't so I sent a message to CS and here is the response from Customer Service as of today,

"I understand the users you invite to look for you on Fiverr are no longer able to locate your profile through the search feature. Previously, it was possible to search for a freelancer's username, and when the search yielded no gigs one would be asked if they wanted to search through available freelancers. This option is no longer available, so I would suggest that you share a direct link to your profile instead of just your username."

I just discovered this. Why did they remove the ability to search by username? Seems odd.

It's not only odd it's not a best practice with any website! At least in my opinion. The search function is the most basic for all websites.

Yes, this option is currently unavailable, but you can search on any search engine using username/fiverr. Is it legal to search for Fiverr profiles on any search engine, as Fiverr has removed this feature mnow. Does anyone have any insights or updates on this?

So for example, I searched your gig and this is what I see (attached screenshot)

Interesting. As of a couple days ago - I had a link under the "We Couldn't find any services...." to "Find Users with this Username" or something like that. I just checked again and sure enough - it has now gone.

This has been broken for a while. I just always use a web search like this and it found you even though I misspelled your name.

But web search won't necessarily have all the sellers shown there (just because they're in a sitemap doesn't mean Google will keep an up to date index of all of them). In the Fiverr version you could do partial searches too and it should have about every active seller. Both will have some advantages, but I don't think Fiverr should have removed it as it could making finding some sellers more difficult.

We really need this back! It’s terrible for marketing.

True, but I doubt any serious buyers are using their phone to conduct business of any magnitude.

I use my phone every day for business. It doesn’t matter if you are on the App or website, you still can’t search for a person.

We can still do the search on mobile App (buyer mode).

Thank you! That works! I hope it’s not just a matter of time before they delete it from the App. You would think I would know that! I know they moderate the forum for ideas and issues so let’s keep this going!

I used to search for my name on Fiverr but did not get anything. So yeah, I then searched on Google and found my several gigs, profile, and also forum profile.

Yes I appreciate it if this feature comes. Now when I introduce buyers from outside to the platform it happened a couple of times they already opened the app and typed it in and then I needed to say; No you should go to the top then type in the webadress just like this. And then the response of the buyer was they find it suspicious etc and already unfamiliar with the platform so that´s it.

Why don't you just share your gig's direct link?

I do share the link but I also just tell people to search my name. I had to search for someone the other day and I just used Google. It seems strange that you would need to go outside the platform to search for a person.

When you search for a person, it looks suspicious that you can’t find them. Did they disappear? Banned? Quit? It makes it seem like something happened to the seller because they can’t be found. So unless a person hearts your gig or knows how to search for a previous project they are forced to use an outside of the platform search?? That is not right for any user to go through so many steps in this day of AI!!

Even when it was an option it was terrible. You had to search for their exact username (as opposed to 'Melissa Harlow' or 'Terry Grant') to even have a chance of returning the result you're looking for. I've never understood why it was so poorly implemented, but it's one of like, 100 things I don't understand about this place. 🙂
