Should a buyer demand a seller's email address to complete payment?

Question

Hi, I am newbie. I am offering online tutoring and just received my first request. Without discussing required subjects or availability with me first, I have had a message from someone liking my gig. They have attached a screenshot showing a card payment screen. They have filled in the long number, blotted out the other details (which makes sense), but then claimed they can't progress because they need to enter the seller's email address. They are now asking for my email.

This seems weird, and has my scam detector twitching, but for all I know this is normal Fiverr practice. I have attached suitably redacted screenshots. Is this legit?

You're absolutely right to trust your instincts here; this sounds highly suspicious. At no point should a buyer need your email address to complete a transaction. Sharing your email or any personal contact information with buyers is against Fiverr's Terms of Service and can expose you to scams.

Do not share your email address; instead, report the buyer to Fiverr's customer support and explain the situation. They'll look into it.

This buyer's request is not legitimate and may be a phishing attempt or another form of scam.

Thanks for posting this, I just signed up today and the first message I got was something like this. Your post was the confirmation I needed that someone is trying to trick me. They even use the same screenshot!

What I don't like is that I already got 4 of these in one day! I wish there was a setting to only allow verified buyers (either KYC'd or having done one successful order) to contact me.
