Do I have to give buyers my e-mail in order for them to purchase my services?

Question

Posted

I got ask by a client for me to give them my e-mail in order for them to do the checkout throrugh Fiverr. I suspected it was a scam so I told them I'm not allowed to provide that information. A new client ask for it now, I'm new here so I wanna make sure if it's in indeed a scam or if it's part of the selling process.

Thank you so much!

Yes it's a scam. Fiverr doesn't ask buyers to ask for the seller's email address. Fiverr doesn't allow sellers to give their email address out in the Fiverr inbox. All contact is supposed to stay on Fiverr.

If they're showing a screen that says it's asking them for your email address then its a scam (made up screen) one (and Fiverr already knows your email).

You're correct to be cautious. On Fiverr, all communication and transactions should be conducted through the platform to ensure your safety and avoid scams. Do not share your email or any personal information with clients. If a client insists, report the situation to Fiverr support.

in this specific situation if sharing your mail address isn't crucial for your order completion - you should say this

"As a seller, we aren't allowed to share our personal mail address to avoid communication outside the marketplace - we do have all communication methods right here built into Fiverr - if you have any questions regarding the order process please feel free to share that with me"

No. Sharing personal information is violation of Fiverr TOS and harmful your account safety. When you get order then you can share email if its necessary for the order.

Thank you so much for guiding me about this. I recently got this message, and after researching it more, I get to know about it.

I am also new to the platform, they also asked me for my email and sent me the attached image, so I am in doubt.

I literally just got the same screenshot with the same fake card number and everything.

🚩First red flag that it's a scam is that it's asking for personal information, which is forbidden.

🚩Second red flag was in the text that came with the screenshot, which wasn't very specific and clearly avoided specific language that would alert Fiverr it is phishing for content. The text read "Hello. I sаw уour ad аnd rеаlizеd thаt this is whаt I need. Вut therе's a рrоblem! I want to makе а рayment to thеn discuss the detаils оf thе order, but аs уou саn sее, mоre informatiоn is requirеd... Сould уou рleаsе send it to me?" Notice the sentence with the exclamation point. Most people don't write like that. It's spammy / salesy.

🚩 Third red flag: The non-specific nature of the text can also be extended to recognizing that they didn't mention which service / ad I have up on my site, which means it can be a copy-paste and be resent to hundreds of people in less time. I would have to ask which one, and they would have to go to my profile to look. But I can ask a trick question here so they don't have to answer correctly if they're lazy. I could ask, "Are you trying to purchase the zebra *** or the duck ***?" 🤣 (Substitute that as you will.....Either way, I don't sell either, and a lazy scammer will just reply one of those.) Otherwise, you can ask for a screenshot of the whole page to show which one, and they get a little harder to detect.

🚩Fourth red flag is that it doesn't show a screenshot of your entire page they're trying to order on, which means they could have screenshotted from anyone's page (also, that's not the official checkout screen.)

🚩Fifth red flag is that they didn't black out the card number. Why the heck would someone give a card number and not block it out? They would be sharing confidential information. That makes it extremely easy for someone to try to steal their card info, if it was real.

I attached a screenshot of the card I got, lol. It was the same, except differently shaped scribbles over the difference on the expiration date and pin number. Screenshot is below:

I'm really glad I'm extremely suspicious of online people, lol.

Hi guys ! same thing keeps happening to me (we're at 25+ scams in 2 days), but this time it was different.
The client had completed more than 20 orders and has been on the platform for 4 years... (see screenshot).
How can that be ?

I usually get scammers that have just joined the platform and are immediately blocked by the Fiverr team.

It could be their account has been hacked and so they hacker starts trying to scam with the account. It's unlikely the original account holder would start trying that scam after making 21 orders.
