Does answering to the customers you started the chat with through a brief not increase the response rate?

My response rate has dropped recently and I don't get much messages on Fiverr these days, so I've been replying to briefs to get it back up. I just replied to someone, yet the response rate was left unaffected. Does anyone know if briefs don't affect it at all, or should I wait for the precentage to rise? If so, how long, approximately?
